sorry for the long story...
About two weeks ago, I took my coupe to Ray Catena for an oil change. I told the service rep NOT to wash the car and he said ok and even wrote it down. Two hours later, he comes to me and says that my car DID get washed and his sorry. Both of us went ouside to see the car and long and behold...my 19" DPEs are ruined (wheel paint ruined and rear wheel lip curved) I was very upset at first but they immediately took full responsiblity which calmed me down. The dealership is replacing all four wheels. Now the difference between 19" and 20" for all four wheels is about $324 (which I will put up)...should I go ahead and put 20s on my car? The service manager has no problem with my "upgrade"
Please keep in mind I live in NYC and have the 350Z Teins H-Techs. I asked friends and they said no and I will regret doing it. But seeing people on this forums with 20s makes me wish I have gotten 20s to begin with.
Any thoughts is appreciated

 

IF YOU LIVED IN FLORIDA 20 FOR SURE, BUT I JUST GOT 19'S ON MY COUPE, AND IM AFRAID IM GOING TO BEND A RIM, THE ROADS ARE SO BAD HERE IN NY. Take the 19's they look hot and there is a slim chance youll bend a ri.

 

I put a dealer "DO NOT WASH" piece of paper on the dash when I ask the dealer
not to wash the car. the porters rarely look at the service order, so just as backup.

I would stick with 19's too. hope you get it fixed soon.

Glad that they are compensating you. But i'm not sure if 20's will be the right idea since you live in NYC, because of the potholes. If you are leaning towards 20's then make sure ur air pressure is nice and high each and every day, a tire under pressure leads to a higher chance of the lip bending on the rim just in case u hit a pot hole.

 

The roads are damn bad in NYC. I suggest to get something smaller.

 

20's in ny/nj for a daily driver isnt the best idea in the world, but they sure do look nice

 

I live in Chicago. Ive had 20" Volks for almost 2 years and not a scratch on them . I drive the car everyday.. 20"s all the way

 

stick with the 19's you shouldnt even be asking knowing the roads around your area. dont ask for trouble , the added aggravation down the *cough* road just isnt worth it. and if you think the 19's are bad in the snow try the 20's with 1/2 inch of rubber between the rim and the road.

Go 20's. I've only had my 19's for a month, and I already wish I went with 20's to begin with. Prob next summer...

 

tell your service manager that I'm looking for some cheap 19s and will refinish them.

I am still undecided ...does performance decrease going from 19" to 20"? If it does, then 19s if not 20s, since I still got my stock 18s

Also the dealership already mentioned that they want to keep my old 19s when my new ones come in to try to recover some of the cost, which makes sense but suck for me...it would have been nice to have extra set of wheels.

 

Yes, you can experience loss in performance because the larger wheels will most likely weigh more, harder to get higher performing tires for larger wheels, and the increased radius of the larger wheel could give the spinning wheel more unsprung weight than a 19in wheel.

I thought you said you had the stock 18s? If that is the case, and you are worried about performance, go ahead and get the 20s, then equip your 18s with trackday tires for whenever you get the urge to flog around a road course or go down the dragstrip. I am assuming you want the extra set for performance, no?
