So you'll be an accessory before the fact? Cool. I've always wanted to know what it was like to be the middle-man in a federal conspiracy - fill us in...

(why do I hear a little whiny voice in my head saying "dad, it isn't mine - I was only holding it for a friend...?"

Since when is insurance fraud "personal purposes"?

As an added note, check to see if your state has a disclosure on the title of the car for the odometer. I'll bet it also has a box to check if the reading is not correct. Fail to check the box, you are in for doing the time. Even if you tranfer title to the insurance company for salvage. (Of course, claimng a higher value on salvage is also fraud.)

Which is higher - his insurance premium or the fine?
And if I recall correctly, there's some special goodies in the law for any dealers who tamper with the odometer.

any respnses will be nice.
I work for an Automotive instrument cluster supplier (we don't supply to Nissan though :| ) and let me say that I've seen first hand that that is a serious offense.

On nearly all new cars it's basically impossible to do, anyway. As others have said, the mileage is actually kept in at least two places. If one's reading goes too far from the other, the car will start setting mileage faults, easily alerting anyone that there is a problem.

Yup if the car was from the 70's or 80's you could but the new ones?? No way. You could always have some guy break into the car and smash the gauges and steal the ecu.... Hahaha

You either have federal immunity or are very stupid for even posting this question (solicitation?) on a public forum.

OR, maybe you're just an undercover cop looking to entrap the weary ...

I googled and FOUND THE ANSWER!!!!!

Step 1: Fill gas tank with sugar
Step 2: Start car and run in reverse

That should fix it.
