mileage rewind

hey guys how are u. i know we all scheme no one here is 100 percent, even the infiniti employees are not legit. my friend has g35 coupe with 50,000 miles he needed to wind it back 20000 miles for personal purposes. does anyone know how much it costs to do so or if it is possible to be done. i heard new infinitis store the mileage in the key so dealers can tell if you wound it back or not.

any respnses will be nice.

does anyone know how much it costs
about 5 years in the pokey.

the ECU cant be changed, the dealer has to send off the ODO to be set if it were to break. Same with the ECU. Only ICA/Nissan corp can do it, not a dealer.

Its also VERY easy to see miss matched ODO/ECU. Resale would plumet and if he licensed it or sold it without a discloser/waiver from the state, it most likely come back on him the first time a dealer ran a Consult.

Do you have any idea what the penality is for rolling back an odometer? I don't think it's too likely you are going to get anyone to role back your odometer from an Infiniti dealership.

With such an emphasis being placed on correct odometer readings and disclosure statements, I wouldn't imagine that falsifying an odometer reading would be as easy to do these days.

I'd wish your friend luck, but if he's going to screw someone out of 20K critical miles, then F him. Sure, if he went over the miles stipulated by the lease he's probably in for about $3000 in excess mileage charges, but this shouldn't come as any surprise to him. Looks like he's primed for a lesson in accountability. As a friend, you might serve him well by being the voice of Reason. He's going to get screwed out of more than $3000 if he gets busted for tampering with the odometer. It's not like he's clear if he manages to make it through turn-in or a sell without being busted. They'll come back on him years down the line if they need to. He'll be signing an odometer disclosure statement, which they'll certainly use to nail him.

Oh, I see. Not only does he want to commit a federal offense (felony?) by adjusting his mileage, he wants a side-order of insurance fraud to go along with it...

Yet another example of American society spinning into the $hitter.

Just a short-short from the Federal Odometer Tampering Statute

Violators of federal odometer tampering laws can be sentenced to jail for up to 3 years in prison and/or be ordered to pay up to a $50,000 fine per violation.

****

Which is higher - his insurance premium or the fine?
