Better Gas Mileage with VDC off ????

One of the previous posts mentioned better gas milage with VDC turned off. Does this make sense? They said that it improved from approx. 22 mpg with VDC on to 27 mpg with VDC off.

Anyone have any experience with this?

The only way a G goes from 22 to 27 MPG is downhill with a 120 knot tailwind..

LOL, Yep 120 knot tailwind would do it!
I consistantly get over 21MPG, but have been out of state twice and averaged 27-28 on both trips, and yes, VDC remains off unless the weather is bad.

some RX8 owner also did this and got much better mileage supposedly. I say test it out our selves, theres no harm done in turning it off and test it for a tank and see what happens. I have a feeling that it does work though, perhaps not as dramatic as a 21-27 increase. but i wouldnt be suprised if there is a marginal increase in mpg to make it worth while.

Hmmm.. I'm going to try this. Past 4 tanks, I recorded 19.5 to 20.1 mpgs. I just filled up and reset my trip odo so now I have to remember to turn off vdc each time now. Hope I can do this. This would be interesting to see.

First thing I do after turning the key in the ignition is turn off the VDC button, so I don't know.

It would make sense that turning it off would improve gas mileage in theory, but in reality its hard to tell.

Well..... VDC supposedly only work when slip is detected. When it does work, it stabilizes the car by braking individual wheels and cut engine power. I don't see how driving with VDC off would improve gas milage on day to day basis. The the slip light is not blinking, VDC is the same as not functioning at all.

I still don't understand why many people on the forum insist on driving with the VDC off all the time. In the past 2 years, many accidents could have been avoided had VDC been on at the time. You can always turn it off temporarily when you want to have some fun, but off all the time?

there was a period where i was turning the vdc off quite often, and during that period, it seemed like i was getting more miles to the tank. not sure if it was the vdc, or just that i was driving like a panzy during that period =)

My 6MT runs completely different with VDC off if I run it hard, it even sounds different... I leave it off because many times I have gone to pass or something only to have the throttle back off when I need the power (ever been in Houston traffic?) and the car stumbles; that can get you killed here!

VDC off guarantees I have all the power, all the time... I do leave it on in bad weather, but I drive easy at that time also..

I do not know if it helps my mileage or not, i've driven with it off for the past 8 months now, so I could not tell you guys how it is to drive with it off, compared to when it is on... Also, I have a module that remembers the state the VDC was in when the car was last run so stays off at all times unless I change that.

I'm curious to this as well. However, part of me wonders if testing this or saving a few miles to the gallon is worth possibly getting into a accident.

The only thing it will do possibly is save yoru brakes if u're like me and like to stomp on the gas and make your tire slip.

Seems like anyone with the factory Navi could tell quickly. Set the cruise and turn it on and off.
