Recently fill up with gas? Turn the car on and off after opening and closing the gas cap fully all the time.

Commonly, this happens because people/gas attendents don't close the cap all the way.

Do the pedal method of ECU reset. That should do the trick. It's in our DIY forum under ECU resets.

If you can't do that, disconnect the neg. battery terminal overnight.

Bring it in to the dealership, that would be the easiest

you can just take your car to Autozone or somewhere and get the code read
and cleared.

I have a OBDII scanner which reads the code and clears it so I just do it at home
whenever I get a SES on any of my cars.

i don't like resetting the ECU as it needs to re-adapt to my driving habits from
scratch again.

ECU reset using the pedal methods. It's easy! I can do it 90% of the time. If you disconnect the battery, you may lose your radio presets and have to reprogram them, and maybe your compass too.

Just get a obd2 scanner. You can get a cheepo for like $40.

I just fixed that problem on my wife's G sedan and the oxygen sensor was messed up so they had to replace it. Before that, gas was not burned completely resulting in lean gas smell from the exhaust. Damn, that thing gave me a headache.

I think you were getting the rich gas smell.

there's literally hundreds of DTC's; when your car throws a SES
get it scanned right away, record it, and clear it. If the same
code comes back repeatedly you have a malfunction.

If you can actually smell the problem giving you a headache,
you waited much too long.

i hate doing ECU resets as it needs to adapt again from scratch.

You could reset your ECU, but why would you do that if something needs to be fixed. You won't know unless you take it to the dealer. That seems to be the smart thing to do.
