My first oil change...and
I just did my first oil change at about 2200 miles. I have always done all work on myself and I just don’t trust shops or dealerships.
After seeing how many screws you need to remove the cover under the motor, I bet the shop would either not put it back on or forget to install all screws...but anyway I can not believe how small the filter is...its really small. I think its actually smaller than my brothers filter on his Honda CBR.
Wonder why Nissan went with such a small filter?
I decided to use Castrol GTX 5 30 oil and K&N filter, I think this will be a good combo, car seems to rev freely as always.

i've heard other posters replace it with a nissan filter that is much longer...
and as far as the screws go.. i looked where the cover is on the underside and there was a square cut out. while i didnt look too closely its quite possible (a) it is cut out from the factory (b) the local dealer cut it out for easy access to the filter.
just food for thought.

yeah thats what i said! there is a bigger filter that fits on our cars, Nissan/Infiniti both sell them.
as for the screws.. a dealer would not remove the cover.. if u look closely the underbody cuts out right below the bolt and the filter.. but if your car is on a jack u will not be able to get it.. u can unscrew the 3 bolts around the passenger side.. it'll leave enough room to stick ur hand in or the oil filter wrench to remove it.. then just drop it down the hole once u get it off..

I was allowed to go in the shop for my 1st Oil change. I told them I wanted to take pictures of my car from below and I wanted to see how dirty the Oil was. They drop the oil to a metalic big bottle so there is no way to see the Oil after they pour it off, and I saw they unswrewed the whole lot of screws while it was jacked up.
