tire pressure problem - does this make sense?

hi everyone
when i left for work this morning i noticed an odd sound going down the driveway.. when i got on the road things didnt feel quite right. i was going pretty slow - 20mph and only for a hundred feet or so before i pulled over and checked it out. it looked like my right/rear tire was flat, so i went back home.

the tpms never went off. does that mean it doesnt work?

also, a week ago i had that tire repaired and was hoping it would last another week before my new tires arrived. apparently not. when the tire first had a flat, the tpms light came on, albeit when the tire was almost flat (which may have taken several minutes to get there)

anyway, do you guys think my tpms system has failed? or did i just not do enough driving for it to begin looking for a problem?

Well my tpms sensor light goes off when it reaches a certain tire pressure in the tire. I've had mine go off right when I turn on the car so that eliminates the fact of driving it for a few minutes. I would get that taken into Infiniti, might be a bad sensor.

It's possible that the tire shop damaged the sensor during the previous repair...

Sometimes it takes a while for the sensor to go off. I don't believe it is trigged by low pressure itself, but rather a variance from the other pressures. I'm guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-10 psi.

I'll bet if you had continued to work, your sensor would have gone off. I had a nearly flat tire a while back and it did not trigger the alarm until about 1/2 mile down the road.

ever since i bought my car the sensor light has come on periodically whenever i drive 30 miles exactly. first few times i stopped to check the pressure and everything was fine. then when the car started up the light wasn't on. i haven't had it checked yet but i ignore it and do it the old fashion way, check my tire pressure once a week and everything is fine.

Try lowering the pressure by a few pounds on another tire. It should actuate the TPS alarm, and may indicate the TPS on the leaking tire is faulty.
