Audio Project

For those that haven't seen my pic from freshalloy. Here is the link to my audio project. This is the first phase of the project.

Second phase is on the way. I am planning to add the focal utopia 5.25 inch in the back. Then alpine center speaker, dvd changer and 5.8 lcd screen. Basically setting up a home theater system. Also i will be getting the alpine pxa-h700 for digital processor. Hopefully it will be done in two weeks. I will post more pic once i get it down.

Re: Audio Project

wow, very clean setup, i like!

I'm just not understanding what the point of the faceplate is, and why/how it is hooked up to the factory NAV.....please explain why you did this. Thanks.

Re: Audio Project

Rambo,

I can't take out the factory radio because AC and other system depend it. The AC i know for the fact went south on me when i took the radio out. So i don't want to take find out what else will go wrong. That is the only place that the installer can think out so i decided to go with it.

The factory DVD nav, that is where the DIN for the face sit. It is seal and i can't access to it. Therefore, i went with a CD changer underneath the passenger seat.

Hope that answer your question.

Re: Audio Project

redwillow,

Just funny how you mention that. I installed a racing sparco aluminum pedal recently and haven't post the pic yet. I will post it once the home theatre is setup in my car. Kinda stupid calling home theatre when it is in my car. Maybe i should call it car theatre...heheheheh

Re: Audio Project

Jayhawk620,

I got focal utopia 6.5 components in the front. Got the alpine 7995 modified. The faceplate is solder to a ribbon cable that go to the main unit. The amps are both phoenix gold ti series. I have the 500.4 running the fronts. I bridges them right now. PG ti 800.1 running the JL 10w6v2 sub. Also got a cd changer sitting right below the passenger seat.

Now i am upgrading the alpine 7995 to 7996. So far that is plan. Therefore i will have a 7995 modified with a ribbon cable for sale. The chance of that happen is 99 percent. If anyone want to have similar setup as mine, they can buy my old alpine 7995. I had that unit little over 7 months.

The reason why i am upgrading cause i could get a DVD changer but instead opt for a single dvd head unit. There is no room left for the DVD changer...hehehhe...don't want to lose that space cause my golf gear.

The focal utopia 5.25 will at the rear side panel. It is against the side wall. The rear bose 6x 9 will be taking apart. I need some air so the bass can go inside.

I chose 5.25 cause i got for cheap. Plus when i listen to music, i don't use the rear speaker anyway. If you have the rear speaker running, then you will lose the imaging. Nora Jones no longer singing in front of you, instead her voice is coming in the middle of the car... That is just my preference. When i listen to music, i like it to come from the front not from the rear. Also, the alpine 7995 have the time correction which allow me to adjust from left to right. I can tune it in way that Nora voice is right in the middle and in front of me.

I don't know whether most of you know it or not, Focal Utopia is great speaker. The reason is that Focal is own by JM Labs. Focal for car and JM Labs for home speaker. JM Labs Grand Utopia is the best home speaker in the world. Cost is 70K. I used to have JM Labs Electra series and they use the same driver as the utopia. That is why i chose them. Other brand that I know that is good with home system is Dynaudio. Again, Dyanaudio also make car speaker and they are great too. Just matter of taste.

Hope that clarify all the questions.

Re: Audio Project

Zaid918,

I believe it is the grounding. THe cassette player have to be connected otherwise it won't work. The installer said the grounding on the AC is dependent on the cassette player.

He ask me if i want him to tweak it. I said no because during that same time, i had problem with the ABS, VDC lights problem. So i didn't bother with it cause i need to get to the dealer and fix the light situation. I didn't want to give the dealer an excuse to void my warranty. If i had known that the problem was merely the brake switch, i would have let the installer continue to play with it and tweak it to work.

Well to sum it all up, the installer believe that the gounding of the AC is dependence on the cassette being connected. If you take the cassette and the cd changer out, then AC is screwy. No AC but only heat eventhough you turn the AC on. Select temp to 60, still heat only heat.

Well hope that help. Please feel free to ask if i didn't clarify enough.

Re: Audio Project

I got the 6.5 from ebay @500. The amp cost me 650.

8 inch will give you alot of mid bass. You will have not low frequency. If you don't care for the low, than the setup would be nice.

ALso, please audition other speaker first prior to chosing focal. When you have time, audition diamond audio and Dynaudio. I know different people have different taste.
