Intelligent Key

This may be a dumb question, but this is a forum and where you ask dumb questions Anyway, WHAT IS an intelligent key? Whats the difference between the 06' Intelli key and the G35 keys we all have now?

if you go to Infiniti's website and look up the FX, they have a blurb about it. The Technology Link......

Intelligent key is a key fob you keep in your pocket. You can unlock your car and start it without ever taking the key fob out of your pocket. Some people think it's a useless feature (it seems most car magazines don't like this type of feature), but I think it's a great feature. My wife's FX35 has this and I love it. You don't ever need to fish for your key in your pocket. It's a very convenient feature IMHO. In fact, if I can add just one of the new '06 features to my G, it'd probably be this one.

An old technology Mercedes had for their cars over five years now. All it does is to keep a chip in your wallet, the car's computer senses it as you are near the car. Doors will be unlocked and all you do is to press a button on the gear shifter to start the car. This description is for Mercedes cars.

For Inifiniti, there is a start button where you normally insert your key.

What everyone else said, but for me just the fact that the keyfob looks like it belongs on a 40K car is the biggest difference. The old one just looks plain fugly and cheap!!

In the Infiniti version, do the seat/mirror/sterring column settings assign themselves to the particular intelle-key? This would be were you have a specific setting for you stored in the memory and your spouse has their setting stored in the second memory setting.....are the fobs assignable to those settings so when you get in with your fob, everything adjusts to the memory settings specific for you or when your spouse gets in the evrything adjusts to theirs?

The intelligent key is awesome. I have it on my "05 sedan and i believe its truely "intelligent".

throw the key in the truck...and close it with the key inside...the truck will pop right open automatically.

the car senses the key on your person so at a push of the little button on the door handle you can unlock the driver door or all the doors. No need to fumble around for the key to start the car. Seems like the sensors are pretty accurate. if your key is somewhere in the front seats you can start the car. as soon as the key leaves this area, right outside the door for example, you'll get a series of warning beeps from the car. If you try and lock the key in the car the locks automatically unlock themselves.

I still remember what the sales lady told me...she said "you have to be pretty smart to be able to lock this key in the car." obviously said because its virtually impossible to get locked out.

this would be a nice feature...but i doubt it could be done.

Another point is the FOB has the valet key "hidden" inside it. Push down on the little lever and the valet key pops out and you keep your FOB...the valet key can't open the truck and/or the glove compartment.

It's a key that has been to post-graduate 'key' school...

(the question had been answered and I couldn't control myself...)

SO, is the intelligent key wired to the seat memory?

If so, my question is: if two people have different memory settings and both get in the car at the same time w/ their fobs, does inteligent key know who's in the driver seat?

Sounds like a pretty cool feature! Too bad I missed it on my cars... When it's time to trade the X I'll have it!

I dont see why it cant be done, its already done in the VWs, my moms jetta can assign a profile to each keyfob, and everytime you unlock the doors with one keyfob everything changes to that profile, although it doesnt have the keyless start feature.

he means it cant distinguish between two different fobs in the car at the same time the i-key is suppose to have the memory functions built into it, making each one unique but at the same time infiniti is falling behind because they are the only i-key users that can't figure out how to put it on a manual tranny or just refuse to

what i want to know is why they couldn't offer it as an add-on to the 6MT's? I wonder how MUCH wiring it would take to have this "added on.."
