Unhappy first scratch - need to vent

I came home yesterday to find a couple of light marks on my door. I take a closer look and it has scratched through the paint. It's a rock or something because it scratched there and bounced onto the plastic film piece in front of the rear tire. It cut a small slit into the plastic too.

I tried cleaning it, putting some touch up paint on it but it's still noticeable (well by me anyway).

Dont feel too bad....my damage cherry was popped when I mowed down a coyote going 80mph. Amazingly I hit it so perfect only the bumper had to be replaced.

The bad part was spending another $500 for another clearbra.

Now I caught a chunk of tire off my hood on the way to Vegas a month or so ago. Nice huge rubber scrape mark on my clearbra. Guess that thing has been worth it.....

Anyone tried the following process for their scratches?

-fill with touch up
-wet sand with water and 2000 grit
-car polish

I've seen the process done on a couple of cars and although it looks better, I doubt that you'll be happy with the result. If it bothers you, there are guys who specialize in minor paint repair. These specialists visit dealerships regularly to do minor repairs for very reasonable prices. Find out who your dealer uses, and my guess is that for around $75 he can make it look almost as good as new.

good suggestion.
I use a toothpick to spread the touch up evenly.

Clearbra still wont help everything. Ive got some nicks and dents all over the car, that are just bound to happen. I've never had a cars paint chip this easily.

I hear you bro.....I was returning from getting my clear bra done on my M and I watched a rock fly up from a truck, land on my hood and smack my windshield.....UGGGGGG. Not much damage other than a 1/4" scratch on the hood which I touched up.
It's bound to happen.....hopefully not any more tho. You know it's there, but anyone else will probably not notice.

C.

Agreed. This paint does seem to chip pretty easy. My 7 year old Maxima's front bumper looks better than my 2 month old G's does.

But a clearbra protects the front bumper, which is what you're talking about!

Chips on the side of the car are much less common. Dings are avoidable for the most part if you park carefully.
