Newbie w/ some questions....
I know I know...another newbie.
Well anyways, I am considering switching over to a G35 from my RX7....I have been into RX7's for about 4 years now, selling my latest FD right now and I am considering a G35 as a replacement for the FD. I have been reading on here about all the various options for making some decent power, from APS, Greddy, Turbonetics, etc....I will be wanting to go turbo with the G.
How strong are the stock drivetrains; ie: input shaft, rear end, axles, etc..when/if I build a G35, it will be recieving a TT kit, test pipes, exhaust, clutch, cams, and a plenum. Now what I don't want is a time bomb, I hear that the rods are the weak link in the VQ35, but how about the top end of these motors? I am not planning on daily driving the car, but at the same time, I don't want something that I need to be afraid of, I can build the block first if I have to, then do the TT kit, but I just need to know a good order or plan of attack for these mods and also what I can expect out of them. I am looking for a nice luxury car with good horsepower capability and a nice ride quality.
I have had a T78 RX7, 60-1 RX7, Upgraded TT RX7, and many more....it is not a big deal for an RX7 to run 11's....but I have noticed a lack of belief on this forum for the G35 and running 11's...people are talking that you need slicks, forged block, etc...to run 11's which are nothing. I have also read on APS's site that they claim 470.2whp on a APS TT G w/ exhaust and test pipe on 93 pump gas.....but yet on here, people say it will make high 300's to maybe low 400's....and the G's with built motors, cams, etc...are all making 450-500whp. So is APS not honest about their claim? Also, I noticed it was on a dyno dynamics dynometer which always reads 10-15% lower than a dynojet....which dynos are most of you tuning and pulling on?
So I just need to know if the G is the car I should be looking into for a next project, something fast, reliable, comfotable, and good looking. My friend has a TT 350z w/ a Greddy kit and he traps 121 w/ stock block and bolt ons....is a G35 a worse setup for drag racing? Is the gearing different? Do they weigh much more?
Thanks,
Scott

Is this the wrong section to be asking these questions in? I see 46 views and no replies.
Or is anyone interested in a trade for my FD for their G?

G35 is heavier than the 350z but gearing is the same. It depends how much power you are looking for, I wouldn't go too much over 400whp with the stock block and if you want more than that you probably should build it. Also at 400whp the axles will snap eventually if you drag the car, I would look into new axles. I would get better clutch too if you are going for a lot of hp. You have to remember 400whp is a lot different when your car weighs 3500lbs. You'd probably get a better responce if you posted in the Forced Induction forums yet as I haven't researched much into yet.
