This is the only thing I "Haven't" received a ticket for....=oD
Seriously a 7 year old thread and doesn't everyone know over the age of 12 if you light up your tires you're going to get pulled over? This is where awareness comes in, if you know there's a cop close by are you going to take her to 2K RPMs and pop the clutch....stupidity!

I have two things to say: 1. He must've tried to burnout because you can't pop the clutch at 2k, apply normal pressure to the gas and burnout for a long time.
2. Even if you floor it in front of a cop you can get a ticket. I saw on a Bimmerforums thread that someone got a ticket in his 335i for "accelerating too fast." He had a clock and he said he did 0-60 in 9 seconds. In a 335i that's like an average acceleration yet he got a ticket!

Either way, OP deserves the ticket. I can drop the clutch at 2K in my car and the tires will hardly chirp if I'm just giving it normal "daily driving" throttle levels. In any case, the engine definitely would not have revved up to 2.5K with the tires spinning until then. Take note I have a fully blue printed/balanced engine with port and polish, race bearings and a ton of bolt ons. I also rarely rev above 3500RPM under normal driving conditions (definitely not if a cop is there...).
OP deserves ticket for doing something like that in front a cop...no questions about it.

Even on the WORST tires you'd have to be giving it a decent amount of throttle for the engine to rev UP after you dropped the clutch - far more throttle than should be used in daily driving and definitely more than should be used in front of a cop.

I'm sorry, but your not going to get a ticket for nothing. I'm willing to put all my money on this guy was indeed "hotrodding" his ride and probably deserved the ticket. Live and learn. Don't get on here and b!tch about it. That's like the people who get on here and ask "how can I get out of a speeding ticket". Lol

But here's the thing... ...for me, at least:
You know you can get into trouble for spinning them in front of the cops. So when you get popped for it, how is it suddenly a bogus thing? You wouldn't do so with one sitting next to you, so that pretty much sums it all up. You thought it was safe to get away with and, instead, you got busted.
Granted, the ticket for tire noise may have taken you by surprise and have you thinking "WTF is this?!?", but that doesn't change what took place. Would you be complaining if the ticket was written for "Exhibition of Acceleration" or something similar? Would those carry a higher fine than the citation for excessive tire noise?
Consider that wasting the Court's time might incline the judge to agree with your contention that this didn't qaulify as excessive tire noise... ...but that it was, instead, exhibition of acceleration.

Ha, I got a ticket for exhibition of acceleration in a Mercedes 300CD turbo diesel from a stop light. The cop was directing traffic and motioned for me to go. I went and kicked up a little dust, no intention of showing off or speeding. He jumped on his bike and pulled me over. Must have had a real bad day.
