Anyone with a normal tranny
Re: Anyone with a normal tranny
Yes. People tend to complain more than praise. What you will notice is that everyone with a bad tranny ends up with a good tranny after Infiniti swaps it out. Don't forget the 7 year warranty.
If you're looking for a reason to not buy the 6mt, then you shouldn't be getting it in the first place. Get what will make you happy. For me, only a manual would float my boat!

Re: Anyone with a normal tranny
I like my 6MT - shifter feel, performance, everything is great. I like this tranny better than the one in my Z06 in terms of feel.
But, I only have 450 miles...

Re: Anyone with a normal tranny
I have had no problems with the 6mt. I don't even think it's "notchy" like most reports. I have always had sports cars with manual transmissions. I sometimes wonder if these folks with transmission troubles don't know how to drive a manual transmission.

6,000 plus miles on 6mt coupe; no problems. Thought it was a little notchy in beginning; either it smoothed out or I got used to it. Never was a problem either in feeling or actual.
I'd agree with other poster: if you think 6mt is a problem before you get it, it may become a problem afterwards. To ease your fears, do a pre-owner call to Infin Consumer Affairs and ask them how many mt problems they've had.
Remember this: brakes, tires, clutch, trans and engine are very much subject to how you drive and, in some cases, how well you drive (such as, do you really know how to optimally shift and not wear out your clutch; do you know how to brake to optimize lifespan vs. trailbraking into a curve as if you're Mario Andretti, etc.).
Am I worried after reading three websites and all the posts re short life of trans, brake pads, and tires? Sure I was. But I'm willing to wait and see how it does with ME as the driver and, while we all think we know how to drive well, it is very dependent on each of us. I would suspect that many drivers do in fact "drive as if you stole it" from Day One. That's not going to enhance the life of any component.
Enjoy your ride when you get it and see what real people say about the car such as some of the posters on this forum who autocross or drag race their G's. Big welcome to you! OK?

Just over 2800 miles and my 6MT just keeps getting smoother. It was never notchy to begin with. The only problem I am having now is that the slip light is comming on more often when I hit second gear.

Just rolled over 2600 miles tonight. No problems, getting smother with miles. I did put Red line synthetic in at 600 miles. I personally swear by the stuff. Get the 6MT and enjoy...

lebushaw - Please, do not start this debate all over again. Some were lucky with their transmission, other were not, end of the story. It has nothing to do with knowing how to drive stick or not.

Re: Anyone with a normal tranny
Techuinang, well said, because I had severe grinding problems with my 6MT, and I would drive circles around lebushaw, in any form of motorized vehicle...
there is a known and widespread problem with some of the trannies, bottom line. at first i also thought that the poeple having problems were poor drivers. but i have been using clutch operated transmissions since i was 13 and have very little doubt in my driving abilities, yet i still had grinding problems. it is obviously just a matter of "luck" as to whether one has problems or not...

Re: Anyone with a normal tranny
3500 miles......6MT is smoother than ever, especially after installing a grounding wire kit.
I've asked my dealership and they said that they've had only 1 guy who's had the 3rd gear grinding.
By the way, the warranty is 4yrs/70,000miles, not 7yrs

Re: Why?
Why would you change your oil at 600 miles. That is the way you hurt you engine and transmission when you first break in a car. Even when the infiniti dealership gives you the 3750 oil change, they are underestimating the proper breakin of the pistons and seals. Hope your car is OK. NEVER DO THAT AGAIN, AND I WOULDNT CHANGE MY OIL FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT 3800 MILES.
