Just Raced a Beautiful Blue G
Just Raced a Beautiful Blue G
Well, I live in South Florida and I was drivng down Okeechobee Blvd. and I noticed sick blue g35 with some chrome dubs pass me. I dropped to third and started in on it, the other drive did the same but got a jump on me because they were in front to begin with. I shifted into 4th and passed the other G. Now, mine is an 04 6mt this one was an 05 dont know if it was auto or stick but I pulled on it from behind and i know that G was running me as well. Now, I was just about to get some 20's but my question is.. DO those big wheels really slow your car down that much? I rarely race, never go to the track but I like to have some performance. By switching to 20's will it really slow my car down that much? Oh and by the way. The owner of that 05 blue coupe was a smoking chick. Looking good if you are reading this post... SO guys let me know what the deal is with performance loss with 20's. Would 19's be a better idea?
20's slow you down not just because they are heavier in general, but the a lot of the weight out on the far edge of the wheel. Also the low profile tires you'd have on are REALLY heavy to keep the sidewall strong enough. Rotational mass takes a lot more to overcome, especially the farther it is out. I'd go with 19's if looks are important, personally, I am gonna stick to my 18's.
Thanks for the response. I mean the wheels just completely set a car off. I guess I have to decide what is more important. That fat lip and all the attention that comes with it. Or the performance of the 18's.. Are 19's such a dramatic difference than 20's? I mean, I know my 04 and an 05 are pretty much the same and from what Ive read any advantage an 05 would have would be up top, and that is exactly where we were the top of third and fourth..

I appreciate the helpful responses. Ya know, I never really cared or gave much notice to the guys on here that talk down upon other members that race every once in a while.. I am 24 years old, an attorneywith 6 years of college education under my belt, and yes I do KNOW the consequences of street racing. This post was not meant to brag about a street race, I mearly mentioned that from high 3rd gear to mid 4th that I pulled on a car that should have been faster.. In fact, I the only reason I mentioned the race was because I was concered about more unsprung weight hampering my cars performance. I dont race where I would put anyone in jepordy. If I, god forbid, hurt myself I have no one else to blame. ,Im sorry if I offended anyone because I mentioned a "race". Unfortunately, I bought the G because I enjoy having a performance car. And even for the guys that go to the track. I would be 95% of them enjoy their cars performance on strips other than a track. Honestly......

Dude, let it go...we don't need this crap everytime someone posts, k? Enough of this e-policing or e-mothering type of $hit...it gets old and people will still race if the internet never existed..
So, is that the consensus??? Everything else being equal an average pair of 20's is gunna slow my G down about a half second in the quarter mile? Would it be a good estimate to say a 19 would slow it down by.3 tenths? I was going to go order 20's tomorrow morning but this kinda has me worried. I dont know if I would notice a .2 or .3 difference but anything more than a half second I would notice for sure. And I love my braking power. I dont want to sacrafice that either. Thats the whole reason I got the 04 with Brembo's..
Yes the 20s will slow you down quite a bit. If you get 19's be sure to go light weight- perhaps forged. You won't notice the difference a whole lot from the butt dyno but t s safe to say that it would be noticeable against a stock G w/ otherwise comparable options.
