Just Raced a Beautiful Blue G
Question:
how much weight difference do 19's make from 20's? in general... at most like 5 pounds per rim? cuz i know most of the Iforged rims make only a 1-2 pound difference..
would 8 pounds really affect the car that much? or are there more things involved

A good safe race never hurts. Just got to be safe about it and not endanger other innocent people and or yourself.
Basically speaking. The lighter your car is the faster it will go. With the same engine of coarse.

The average 20" wheel weighs about 30 lbs. Now add an average tire for a 30" wheel in 275/35/20 size and it should weigh about 29 lbs. Stock rears weigh 51 lbs and you've just added 8 lbs of unsprung weight. A good calculation is for every pound of unsprung weight add 10 lbs of sprung weight. 8 x 10= 80 lbs, 80 lbs x 2 rears = 160 lbs. Repeat for fronts. He's driving around with the equivalent of 2 full grown passengers. By the way, how do you know it was an '05 if he had on 20's and that's the only exterior change they got?
Was it an Athens Blue? It must have been me, I raced a G yesterday
'Cept that I'm on stock 19". Btw did you notice if that G had red Stoptech brakes and exhaust? Because there was a guy in South FL with an 05 Athens Blue auto, 20" chrome iForged wheels, lambo doors, etc. He actually got into a bad accident while trying to race my friend. I doubt his car survived or that he let a chick borrow it, but the description sounds pretty familiar...
It can be argued whether 1 lb of unsprung weight = 10 lbs of sprung weight, it's more like 4-5 lbs. But your logic is absolutely correct.

I know it was an 05 because of the color. I don't know the names but it was a very nice blue, not CB of the 03's, which is also hot. The car didnt have a BBK on it. Just clean looking chrome dubs. The girl rolled down her window when she caught up and I asked her what wheels they were. She told me her dad bought them for her so she had no idea. I had to turn off because I already missed my turn but that was it. Maybe the reason I pulled was because it was an auto and I was a stick. Reguardless, just wanted to ask about the wheels because I was going to go get some wheels today. THanks for all the help guys, and girls!!!! Anyways, for whoever was in south florida. I live in Wellington. I have a DG 04 6MT with 5% tint. Otherwise it is completely stock, well until tonight or tomorrow. Holler if you see me..

20" rims, wide (>275) tires .... definitely slow you down.
I went with the 350z 18" track rims. They're not flashy, but I like the way they look.
Compared to the stock cast 18"s, they're about 4 lbs lighter per corner, even with a heavier tire.
An old dyno of an Accord showed that they lost 8 HP going from 16s to 17s.
So let's say you spend a few thousand for some 20"s and wide tires. Now you gotta spend a few thousand more just to make up the HP difference at the wheels.

Do you have pics of that- I always wondered what they would look like on the G

The first two pics were taken a few months ago.
I've since painted the stock Infiniti center caps to match the finish on my track rims. $1000 for forged rims and tires is a pretty good deal.

Incidentally, the dyno numbers in my sig are with the stock cast 18s. I'm pretty sure I've picked up a few WHP with the lighter rims, and this mod doesn't mess up your air fuel/tuning.
I've got 20's on my Coupe. 255 in front and 285 in the rear. I haven't noticed a drop in performance with them. Of course I've had a couple of mods to the engine as well, so it might have off set the effects of the 20's. I've played around a few times with Evo's and 350's and hadn't had any trouble with either staying with them or beating them. Not that I race around all the time or anything. Originally I wanted to get 19's, but I found the 20's I currently have at a great deal, and they where chrome. I'm happy with the performance from them. Like I said, I don't race around all the time, so it doesn't really affect a whole lot.
