To powershift or not to powershift
I raced my car the other day and i was powershifting alot how bad is that for my car (04 6mt coupe)? also my car seems to be running weird, like on take offs and like i dont usually beat on it i usually shift at low rpms like 3000 or less and my shifts seem to be a little rougher.... now i dont kno if its all in my head or not but can someone tell me somthing to put me at ease.... should i take my car in??
Powershifting does hurt your car, but it is a tool utilized to win drag races. I track my car (circuit) every month or so and powershifting is not used at all since the duration is so long.
Power shifting is not taking your foot off the gas pedal between shifts. Prior to rev limiters this was a very dangerous technique that resulted in blown engines. If executed properly, the rpms will be higher than required and hence it will give you a semi-launch effect. Of course you have to make sure that you don't bump into the rev limiter.
This will put additional stress on your tranny and rear axle, but as long as you don't do it regularly, I don't think it will cause any premature wear issues.

I thought powershifting was when youhold the throttle down and without releasing the throttle jam the clutch down and shift real fast. All of this should happen in about 1/2 of a second.

Powershifting will wear parts out if you do it repeatedly. I would only do it if I were drag racing and money was involved. Otherwise just shift fast the conventional way and you'll only be fractionally slower. Plus bouncing off the rev limiter is never fun if you don't shift fast enough or misshift.
So what gather from this is powershifting isnt good for my car..... as long as i only when i race and not all the time (i only do it when i race) its wont cause any premature wear on my car..... and the "rougher shifts" may just be in my head.... and to Aman, i always use a cluch while shifting..... and to everone else the car that i BEAT was a WRX that beat another G35 member on this board..... i had to do it!! thanx sooo much for the imput..... how dose eveone else shift when they race.... o and by the way i havent hit the rev limiter yet... dont plan on it my shifts are really fast

You can't shift, let alone powershift, without a clutch... MM is not shifting, it's telling the transmission to shift for you.

Powershifting, grannyshifting, and double-clutching.
Powershifting is effectively shifting without fully releasing the clutch.
You keep the gas pedal down while you only use about half the clutch travel to shift hard and fast.
This is incredibly hard on a transmission, and in fact simply will not work on most transmissions.
Without fully pushing in the clutch on most cars, you can neither pull the shifter out of gear nor put it into a new one (and it will grind as you try).
Granny shifting is when you take a slight pause in neutral between gears when shifting. So instead of going smoothly from 2nd to 3rd, you pull out of 2nd, stop for a moment in neutral along the way, then go into 3rd, and let the clutch out again. Very slow.
And double-clutching? It's like granny shifting except that you actually let the clutch out when you're in neutral,
bring up the engine RPMs again, then push in the clutch and go into the next gear.
And you do it all VERY fast.
This was especially necessary on older cars before synchro gears smoothed the processes of changing gears in the gearbox.
It is also a way to avoid grinding gears on transmissions that have been damaged by powershifting too much.
