potential buyer- help me out
potential buyer- help me out
What's up everyone, newbie here... Don't own a G35 coupe yet but am planning on it before long. Never owned a Nissan, (longtime Honda guy) but have always respected them. I figured I'd go to the experts with a few questions- First, I read somewhere that the coupe would soon be available with factory side skirts and a new kind of sunroof this fall. If this is true, should I hold out until these options are available? Second, is the G35 on par with the 350Z performance-wise? I ask because I need to fill the void between my 3.2 TL and my Prelude; looking for a rear-drive, 6MT luxury car that is fast and responds well to modding. Honda doesn't have anything competitive in this segment. Been in love with the G coupe since the first time I saw it, sweet car. Any advice for a guy who is seriously in the market would be appreciated. Later-
Re: potential buyer- help me out
no one really knows what changes are being made to the 04 G's.
engine, suspension and tranny are very similar if not identical to better 350z packages. 350 is lighter though. G is 4 seater

Franki,
Welcome to the Forum. Edmunds has said that the Coupe can come with side skirts, they are wrong, it does not (For now). I must admit though, this car is low enough as is, any further side-skirting would be bad, especially if you have aftermarket lowering springs/coilovers.
Do not hold out, go in and place your order, put the $500 deposit, and im sure you will have to wait a few months to get the 6MT that you want. In the meantime, you are not 100% committed to buying that car, so if you change your mind, you can always get your $500 back.
That is what I did, the wait was 6months for my 6MT. In the end I decided to go ahead with the deal. Now i am loving every second! heh.
The G would make a great addition to your already nice car collection!
The G is definitely on par with the Z's performance. Same engine, same transmission, G has a better chasis than the Z (simple coupe vs. hatchback physics), G has back seats, that fold down for even more trunk space.
Straight-line speed, the Z is slightly quicker...maybe .1s faster 0-60mph. However, the G outhandles it because of its longer wheelbase and more rigid chassis.
Good luck, hope to see you driving a G35 coupe soon!

Re: potential buyer- help me out
i too have a TL (for our family sedan)
also my first nissan
have owned many hondas over the years, always took a look at nissans, but for the money a honda or acura was better value. liked the i30 when i bought the tl,,,but for 10K cdn. more for the i30t the tl was a better buy.
as for the G35C, i was looking at boxters and z's and vettes' as well as various bmw's
then i saw the coupe....SOLD........ a 350Z with a back seat and some carrying capacity. look around there really is nothing like it out there,,,and the price is very good comapared to the others i was looking at.

I cannot stress the need to drive both cars. They shaire many parts. But one thing they do not shaire are the same springs and sturts. Drive both cars back to back and it is quite obvious they don't drive the same. The Z also has some underbody chassis bracing and their's the front strut tower brace that the G35 doesn't get. Also the Z is built on a shorter wheelbase, which makes a differance in the car's willingness to rotate.
You will see talk about how the coupe has higher handling numbers. Thing is the Z is a different animal, one that is bread to excell at letting you the driver reach it's limits more easily and do that repeatedly over and over. It is that ability that let's the Z erase the number differances and provide you with a more satisfying ultimate capibility. If your not looking for that capibilty, get the coupe, frankly it looks better, has back seats, and for some, they don't want the Z's harder suspension. But you have to drive both to know the real differance's between the 2 cars.

Re: potential buyer- help me out
I have driven both the 350Z 6MT (my uncle has one), and of course I own a G35C 6MT. The cars drive very similarly. The differences are real, but subtle. Steering feel is almost the same. Braking very similar. Cockpit feels smaller and more 'sporty' in the Z. Handling is similar in terms of body roll, but the Z's suspension is definitely stiffer and I think the Z's ultimate handling grip is higher than the G's, which is slightly more softly sprung. Only slightly though. The G is definitely smoother in terms of ride quality and isolation. Surprisingly, I think the exhaust is slightly louder from the inside in the G.
There's no question though, that when you drive these cars you can immediately tell they're from the same pea pod.
BTW - the G35 Coupe, 6MT has far more in common with the 350Z than the sedan does. I wasn't sure if you were comparing how your sedan feels to the 350Z.
