Unhappy New 6mt pinging in SoCal! help!

Time for my first post, I did a search and could'nt find the info I wanted. I have an '05 6mt with 1335 miles on it and I live in Southern Orange County California, my car has been pinging ever since it was new, yes premium of course, it hardly does it with the ac off but with it on it is worse, I can hear it when I drive next to a wall or a curb with the windows down. I have talked to a few prople and they think it is the quaity of the gas right now, but I havent heard that it is any worse that usual, more expensive yes, but not lower qulaity. There is a gas station near by, I forget what brand, but they have 100 octane at one pump, I was going to try to put a few gallons in to see if that helps but its $6.99 a gal!!!! any input from anyone in SoCal would help, thanks!!

Im 99.9% sure its a ping, and its worse with the ac on, more load, makes sense but then again I am slightly paranoid, damn I dont wanna have someone rip apart my new car! my brothers element also pings with 91, he has a buddy at the dealer that said when cars come in for that the retard the timing through the computer, dont want anything like that either, hmm...

Have the dealer check the initial ignition timing, and for an intake air leak.
Unless your gas is watered down?????, I'd bet on one of those.

My G was pinging as well. I changed to a different brand last week and it has stopped. Mine was the gas. Sometimes gas can be put in the wrong tank by the tanker drivers. Maybe you got some 87. I think that is what happened to me since I only use 91..

What's "pinging"?

My '05 6MT engine kind of "shudders" sometimes when sitting at a stop light.. Is that the same problem?

I had the same problem. Took it into the dealer. They retarded the timing by 2 degrees. Said it would take far more to change performance. It helped a little but not as much as I'd hoped. So I did the ECU reset thingamajigger and no more ping. Oh, and it feels really fast.
