ok ok I'll be honest. I searched, but not too much.

I am looking into either AEM/INJEN intake, due to my local shop
can only provide those intakes at great prices.

I see Injen is more popular for G35C, so I was almost decided..
until I saw these injen intake problem threads. how engine shuts down
and stuff. I also learned that people put heat shield around the injen CAI
which fixed the problem.

is that the only way to fix? I honestly think putting heatshield
around the area of the air filter is killing the whole purpose of
CAI.

 

thing is that there is an induction problem ... the loss of pressure when the clutch is engaged doesnt allow enough air to flow through the MAF ... its like "no air?", and therefore it shuts down the engine cuz it thinks something is completely wrong ... now the heatshield keeps the turbulent air from causing an induction problem for that second it takes to shift, thereby relieving the issue ... now if ur getting the CAI for performance purposes, we all not there is minimal to any gains provided by it, and its mostly only for sound and looks ... therefore putting a heatshield there isnt going to defeat the purpose of the CAI because honestly the main point of it is to give the engine that ******* amazing growl and beef up your engine bay ...

plus, i dunno how the heatshield wraps exactly around it ... but it might even give u that extra added protection when it rains by not letting water through ur intake ...

Don't underestimate the sound from a Z-tube. I'm really happy w/ mine. Performance is there too. performance from a CAI is inconsistant where as the z-tube is always the same.

 

I love my Injen CAI...

as for the z-tube, there were rumors some people lost power so I don't know about that one.

 

The AT wouldn't have a problem with the Injen CAI would it?

That is BS. The 350Z comes stock with a z-tube. This accounts for the addiditional 7 hp the z had over G for 03/04.

Its actually the CAI's that are rumored to loss power onder certain conditions. The z-tube has outperformed CAI's on dyno days.

Don't misinform others please!

 

any opinions on the AEM intake? i'm looking into either the AEM or Injen intakes and need feedback on both for comparison. BTW i have an AT.

 

its virtually impossible to have the induction problem with the AT ... only way i can see that happening is if u threw it into neutral at high speeds ... ive even done that before and not had any problems, since the revs dont drop off as fast for me as if i was shifting ... my friend got an AEM on his v6 accord, and that thing sounds sick during vtec, and i was impressed by its quality ... u just gotta think about the whole water in the intake problem with CAI.

personally, i would go with the z-tube, since u dont have the same problems as CAI.

its actually the z-tube pop charger combo.......any how....a Z tube cheaper alternative....in noway does it sound or perform any better than an injen.

 

That's exactly what I was thinking when I got my heatshield (needed it to stop the highspeed stalling). Although, I drove around all winter in SoCal with our crazy rains with no heatshield and I had zero problem... Other than the filter taking a real beating and needing to be cleaned more frequently. Anyway... pics...

 

i am going to be selling my injen cai for automatic that has been used for about three months. i will also throw in a k&n filter cleaner for $180.00 shipped. pm me if interested.

 

Whoaoa, How did you install that? That doesn't look very DIY =X-- You don't have to take the bumper off for the other ones do ya?

 

You don't always have to take off the bumper. I've read that people are removing the drivers side inner wheel fender (plastic thing) and installing it that way.
