Depends on the weather, I would think...

I live in Winnipeg, Canada. When it is around -30F, I let the car warm up for about 20 minutes - mainly so that I don't die of hypothermia on my way to work in the morning.

I usually wait until the car is at least past the 1st slot. However, I'm sure in normal weather, a minute is more than enough. Note the temp gauge is NOT saying how warm the oil is...it's just the coolant. Personally I think about how warm the oil is before I drive...not coolant temps.

I thought extended idling is bad for the motor...maily for oil leakage. Maybe an old wive's tale?

I give it a good 15 minutes so the oils heat up.

With forced induction I'll usually let the car idle about 2-3 minutes before driving.

anything more than 30 secs you'll start to foul up the o2 sensors and what not. Like mentioned above, this was for older cars, the new ones don't need it.

I usually start up my car then immediatelly rev the engine up to 6500 and peel out of my driveway backwards, do a quick 180 tires spinning, then I stop, rev it up again and proceed to do a peel out 300 feet down the street, everyone on my street comes out to watch me leave for work in the morning. Then about 1/4 mile away is the freeway enterance, I try to beat my 1/4 mile time every morning on the way to work. Then when I hit the ramp it's a low grade hard curve type situation, I make sure i'm going fast enough to hit a neutral slide then entire way up the ramp.

That's my morning warmp up routine...
