How Long Should You Let Your G Warm Up For?

How Long Should You Let Your G Warm Up For?

I Am Very Unsure About This I Always Let My G Warm Up Till It Is At Perfect Tempature, Meaning I Alway Let It Sit For A Bout 7 Miutes Till, The Needle Is Right In The Middle, This Is Correct Right?

Dont need to let it idle that long man. That may have been true for the carbureuter days but no more. Start the car and let it idle for a minute so that the oil pressure comes up and circulates. Once the idle drops to normal idle speed ur good to go. I dont know anyone who waits 7 minutes to drive their car. Just take it easy for the first few minutes of driving as tranny fluid, diff fluid etc need to be warmed up!

Yea, I just let the needle go to the first bar, then I am sure not to go over 3 RPM's until the car heats to the middle.

yup, I wait untill the needle hits the C bar (idle is usually down about 1000 by then) and then make sure to keep it under 4k untill up to normal temps.

I think the recommended standard is 30 seconds - unless you're rich and like to burn gas, increase the amount of carbon monoxide in the air, carbon dioxide, other pollutants, waste time, waste money...

I thought idling just burns an EXTREMELY small amount of gas, I could be wrong.

I usually only let it go about 30 seconds. If its very cold weather, I usually let it go for about a minute before I pull away. Much more important than that, is that you dont accelerate hard until the needle is in operating range, preferribly the middle.

The only real issue here is when people start their cars up in 10° weather, and slam the gas right away.

i typically let mine idle for about 2 hours to bring it up to full operating temp. i just set my alarm clock early and start it in the garage. then i go back to bed.

Actually if you drive less than 15 mins distance, you do not have to warm up ur car, because when the engin finally getting heated , you shut it down, that will affect your car. Althought, if you drive more than 15 mins distances you should warm up ur car till C bar, or when Rpm goes up to 1000, or maybe jsut warm less than 5 mins...

Recommended wait time is only about 30 seconds. But then you should drive easy for about 10-15 minutes. Your car will warm up faster through driving than by just sitting parked and idling.

I start it, put it in gear, and drive. Gas mileage might be crappy, but while it's idling it's getting zero mgp.

You don't have to idle the car at all, you just have to keep the rpms at reasonable levels for a few minutes. Prior to fuel injection, it was necessary to warm up the engine for a minute or two.

i let the needle drop below 1k rpm and drive slowly till i'm sure its warm

it takes twice as long for the oil to heat up as it does for the needle to reach the normal operating positio (water temp)
