A Drivers Race???

Well i drive a 04 6mt.... i love it!! anyway... i was driving along side my other friend who has the same car same options, only diff is that im Desert plat and hes diamond graphite... We decided to give it a go from 2nd gear... i had my tc's off and he had his on, i had an extra person in my car he didnt... i also had a full tank... anyway we go and i get the jump on him... woohoo im winning... we go into 3rd spin em' we were on a concrete highway.... i still have em.... then he starts to gain we go to 4th... my flatfoot shifting allows me to jump ahead for a split second but then he pulls a nose...... im a little confused.... i kno my shifting is....veryyy fast... many ppl tell me how fast i shift.... ive raced many other cars and i usually jump ahead on shifts.... even a modded G (smoked him (he was auto)), i even beat an Evo from a roll a few nights ago also that night i raced a M3 smg and was at his front wheelz the whole way up to !$) ... im wondering what could have made him gain, he went from my rear wheel to the lead.... thats a big jump....i think i made up for it a little on the next shift..... i also have only 5300 miles and he has a lot more.... whats up??? opinions?

Why is your username "BlackG35th" when you have a Desert Platinum car?

Nothing really heavy in the trunk.... golf clubs and a few school books, no subs yet just my 165lb friend and a full tank...... i'd like to hear what u guys think.... i was thinking of reseting my ecu and giving it a go once more... also i'v been driving like a granny bc gas prices went up and i dont need to be flyin around town bc of cops and with gas at $3.19 (that was before rita shut down the refineraries in Tx) i thought prices were going to go up at least $3.00, so i filled up b4 it hit..Gee Three fizzle-i was supposed to get either a black, diamond graphite, or Ip one but wen i saw the Desert plat i fell in love!! 165 lbs (your friend) + 144lbs (full tank of gas) + 20lbs (generous approx of golf clubs & textbooks) = 329 pounds of weight.

Black, would you care to share your shifting technique I am relativly new to 6mt and i have been playing around with different shifting styles. when you say "flatfooted" do you mean holding the gas down while shifting aka power shifting? if so is this ok for the car? I noticed that i can powershift into a lower gear and the engine revmatches nicely, but how does it help upshifting? Anyway, your experience is greatly appreciated.

PS no clue why your friend was pulling on you, i think that if it was the weight you wouldn't have jumped out right away, as weight has more impact at lower speeds. But streetraces tend to be unreliable at best.

mistermojorizin, I know what your going thru with the shifting techniques...i went thru the same thing....When racing i Power shift/Flatfoot shift.... remember that you must be very fast and have very good eye, feet, and hand cordination. you must kick the cluch and in the time it take for the cluch to come back you must be in gear already... took me a while to actually get a hang of actually....... it really isnt tooo good for your car because ur banging gears and dumping the clutch really hard at high rpm.... but it really works when excuted correctly... our cars are ment to be driven hard to a certian extent just not for long periods at a time...... another shifting technique that i might suggest is depressing the clutch pedal very little to get it out of gear and then keep depressing very slowly untill you get in in to ur next gear.... i find that the car shifts with "athority" this eliminates riding the cluch and helps with take off but this too takes practice..... Just to prove that the shifting techniques work i raced an Evo last night at "the races" in that thinks he is hott stuff... we raced once b4 with my traction controls on and he had me... not by much tho and he talked sooo much sh*t so i was like yo give me one more shot and ill hand u ur ***.... he said he would be back later that night but never showed... so i caught him last night and i wanted to race him.... his friend was talking soo much sh*t about how he was going to take meby atleast 3 cars..... long story short we went at it from a 2nd gear roll at 40mph I pulled one car (maybe a little less) from 2nd to the top of 4th... then i power shifted 5th (kinda tricky... just make sure u dont push down on the stick bc u'll miss the gear) and walk him from there... he gave up after i had 2cars...... then i pulled up to say yo nice race.... but he started talkin agiain... i almost got into a fight with his friend bc he started talking.... and began telling me how im a bi*ch bc i wont race him from a stop... those cars are amazingly quick from a stop bc of the AWD but from a roll its a drivers race (stock for stock)... remember our cars are Luxury coupes not race cars...haha

thank you very much for the reply, still havn't implemented the powershifting technique, afraid of hurting my baby, but from what i understand, you push the clutch and shift quickly at the same time while flooring it (is this correct?).

i'm kind of unclear about the second tequnique you mentioned where you depress the clutch a little. could you elaborate - how to do it and when to use it? thanx

ok i tried the power shifting. i don't think i did it right. it sounded really bad, like loud "thuds" that seemed like they were hurting the car, and i didn't feel the car going faster - although i'm sure it did because i was pulling longer (less time wasted shifting) BUT the rear tires wouldn't brake loose with every shift like usual, and no kick in the butt torque - but i guess that's from slowing down and speeding up, and with power shifting, ther's no slowing down.
