Remote Start, true?
I just went to check out remote start and alarms, and the guy at car toys told me that you cant get them for manuals anymore becasue of liability of leaving it in gear and trying to start it. He said that if i could get one somehow he might be able to install it though. I know they are out there becasue ive seen G's with them. Does anything know if this is true or where I could get a good one that isnt super expensive.
Bunch of baloney! You can get the remote start at any alarm shop. But I will tell you that if the dealer looks at the transmitter and doesn't know what the heck to do, they won't touch your car. Well according to Honda tech. I had this particular 2-way paging, remote start alarm.
http://www.commandoalarms.com/itm30032.htm quotes it for $169 but I've seen it for less. I personally like having the 2 way cuz of it's 1 mile radius paging and remote start function.
I have a mechanic friend who works at Honda and he told me one time this mt prelude came in with the remote start and when the tech accidently activated the remote start, the prelude just went straight into the wall.

I have a Viper 791XV installed in my 6MT and the remote start works great. My installer installed it such that the car won't remote start if it's in gear. I know Compustar alarms have good remote start alarms as well.
sure you can- but you have to release the ebreak or something i think-- my friend has one on his 'stang.
They were cool when no one had them. Now they are stupid

It can be done. It's not because of any alarm,Yes it is a liability.I have heard of to many horor stories of remote starts on manuals. The thing to have done is install a magnetic switch on both sides of the shifter (L & R) & one on a fabricated bracket on each side next to the shifter.so when it is in nuetral they make electrical contact. In any gear the electrical contact will be broken therefore will not start.Put this under the shift boot. This does work very well.It is up to the installer to do it right. The parts are very cheap, but may cost a little in labor, but compared to the price to a body shop or hospital it is wort it to be safe. You may not ever start it in gear, but you never know when there may be a time someone else has to work on your car,dealer,vallet,friend.etc.

haha...that's the real "pimp" factor. Walk a girl to you car as soon as the car starts it begins to roll down the hill. Kinda like the Knight-Rider car.

The compustar alarms require you to put the car into a reservation mode before they will autostart. When you turn the car off, you must engage the ebrake, take your foot off the brake, and take the key out of the ignition. The car will continue to run until you close the door. It will then shutoff and arm the alarm in reservation mode and you can use the autostart feature.
u can add a remote start to any manuals. its just a matter of the installer knowing how to bypass the clutch, and the owner of the car must keep car in nuetral. i have a compustar and also viper on my last 3 cars, all standards with remote start for snow. no problems. but compustar is the fastest unit to go because of its reservation mode.
i'm also a certified installer so i save so much money on labor.

Hey guys,
I just got the Compustar remote starter and alarm installed yesterday. What you guys were talking about the reservation mode is true. Basically have to pull e-brake, let go of gas pedal and take out key. Car keeps running until you open and close the door and it self-arms. This way you can't leave it in gear and leave the car. But what I wanted to know is that is there anyway to make it not self-arm after you close the door and just arm when you press the button? That way there is no way to lock your keys in. I find this self-arming feature stupid and higher chance of locking keys in. Thanks.
