G35 Service
G35 Service
Hello,
Newbie here. I come from the wonderful world of the LS1 and I work with a guy who has a G35 Coupe. He typically comes to me with questions about servicing his car, so I figured I'd see what you guys know.
I already searched and got some answers, but I'm still not sure on some of this stuff, so forgive my ignorance.
He's got this 30,000 mile service menu from the dealer and they want to charge him $750 for a whole lot of BS and a few fluid changes. Here are my questions;
Why do you need to flush a manual trans at 30,000 miles? I'm working on way more than that and it still shifts like a hot knife through butter.
Coolant flush @ 30K? GM Dexacool can go at least 50,000 before a flush. I think it's closer to 100,000.
Fuel injection service at 30K? I've found that Chevron Fuel system cleaner can work wonders for $8
What the hell is battery service? Is the little green light on? It works!
Anyway, I'd like to tell him to do the work himself, but I think that would then end up in my lap. So does this car really require all of this service at only 30,000 miles? Any help or advice is appreciated. His car is an 03 M6

im reaching 30K myself soon. i think in the manual, u need only to replace the tranny fluid if u want premium maintenance, but is not required if you're not driving the car in extreme conditions. aside from inspection of parts here and there, there really are only a few things to do at 30K, oil change, incabin filter replacement, airfilter and topping fluids, most of which i can do myself. i cant remember everything but im not paying $520 (my dealer's 30Kmi service) to have someone change a few things, and who knows if they'll actually inspect parts of your car including wipers, door hinges, etc.
1) Manual trans fluid is just like changing the differential fluid. It's just gear oil, but it also collects metal particles from wear. It's just to put clean fluid in. I'd do it. 2) Coolant flush - some manufactures use long life coolant. If the manual says to change it at 30K, change it. 3) Fuel injection service - don't bother. Premium gas has enough detergents to keep the system clean. The manual does not recommend additives including fuel injector cleaner. 4) Battery service is nothing more than checking the water level and electrolite level. Don't bother.
