They are on my G . I have a Pearl White so at the edges it gets a little dirty once in awhile.. I just use a paper towel and spray some turtle wax bug and tar remover and it looks good as new.

I took off the chip-guard film ahead of the rear wheels also. I've got IP and it seemed like the color difference would increase over time. Besides, from past experience I know that it's easier to remove them when new, if you're going to remove them at all.

I just had to remove them to better see the curves right there. Looks a lot smoother/cleaner now. No chips yet, but I don't see a lot of highway travel either.

Also removed the film on the rockers inside the door jambs. My feet never touch the rockers upon entry/exit so I decided to avoid the dirt lines that would accumulate at the edge of the film.

I think it would have been hard NOT being able to Zaino underneath them.

its not for rock chips, its an area of disturbed airflow. It will be sand blasted over time.

I've seen this posted before so, like last time, I have to wonder...

...Wouldn't you run into the exact same problem on the leading edges of the front bumper, fender tops, behind the rear wheels, etc.? If Nissan/Infiniti isn't responsible for rockchips (even on protruding surfaces), then why would they become responsible for long-term, naturally-occuring sandblasting on the same piece?

IMO, these are there to keep the cars in the best shape before they are sold. You could leave the added protection there or remove it at your own risk. Frequent (or average among G owners ) waxing should provide ample protection from slow, long-term sandblasting.

why not custom cut some venture film the same size as that piece, remove it, and then put the venture film on?

i would think the venture (or 3m or whatever) film wouldnt gather as much gunk on the edges & wouldnt show up as much ?

I can't believe we're having this conversation!

Slim chance my ***.......after 4.5 years of owning my 99 Honda Prelude, the rear quarter panels ahead of the wheels were significantly abraded from rocks and cinders (to the point that smoothing out the clearcoat had a minimal effect), and those cars have a very little flare on the fore-side of the rear quarters. This film is not a cursory addition to keep the vehicles looking nice before ownership. They are meant to be there for the life of vehicle ownership. This stuff isn't semi-opaque like the junk they stick on the lower-front for transport. This is transparent for a reason.

You're making a mistake if you pull this film off prematurely. Keep it on - trust me. Its not like the film is visually obtrusive and black like a 1980 Porsche 911. You can't even see ours unless you're up close. I guess if your car never sees the highway or speeds exceeding residential limits then you have nothing to worry about.

btw, I asked the Nissan paint inspector what they were for. I was at Nissan having something addressed on my maxima, back in late '02, a few months before aquiring the G. Though, you'd probably have to live on a dirt road and regularly travel 40 mph on it to see any paint problems... just saying, it aint there for asthetics and we know ICA wouldnt spend a nickle on anything they didnt feel they needed.
