Low Pressure Warning
Low Pressure Warning
It's getting a little chilly in Vancouver and I had my car parked outside for about 4 hours. Went to drive home and my low tire pressure light came on. Freaked the crap out of me but stopped at a gas station and filled up each of the tires just a bit. The light went off after about ten minutes.
Just wondering, do you think he cold night (the first cold one this year) had anything to do with it? I'm going to get a tire pressure measurer tomorrow to get a better idea of what PSI my tires are but...
Does anyone have any comments on this?
Thanks all...

yeah,
rule of thumb is you lose 1 psi for every 10 degrees F. Mine went off to the first night it got cold.
It's useful to have a pressure gauge. I fill mine to 35 psi and try to check every major temp change (maybe 3-4 times a year). Just remember, if you fill to 35 psi in the middle of winter, to let some air out come spring/summer.

Yeah, That loud beep is something else! I checked them now...but it was after driving a while (I had to go out and buy my gauge) warm runnignt emp was 35psi...i'll wait until the car cools down and check again, but I think it should be ok...
Thanks for the tip on letting some air out in the Summer if you fill up in the Winter, I would have never thought of that but it makes sense...

What I don't understand is that the manual says the light will go off when the tire is "significantely lower than the other tires". I checked my tires, and they were all between 29-32psi each. I think the sensor is a tad sensitive. Also, when I go to the track, and lower the pressures, i don't want to be bothered by this light. Significant to me is <28psi. 29psi and the tire looks perfectly fine.
Flipped me out when that happened (also when it got cold). I stopped immediately and visually inspected the tires for a flat, and could see nothing wrong.

Mine turned on three days after I bought the car.. All the tires look to be inflated exactly the same.. My question is, how the heck do I know which tire the sensor is telling me is under-inflated ??

If you have a pressure gauge, then that's the way to do it. They can't be more than a few bucks (i've had mine so long, I can't remember).
You can also just goto a gas station. They should have a pressurized air station with a pressure gauge on it. Sometime they cost like 75cents to use....
