Insurance HELP!!!!!

Hi everyone, I have an S order(s353151) black on black coupe arriving soon, but my dads insurance company, Mercury, is giving me outrageous quotes. I was wondering if anyone around my age (16) can tell me what company, their rates, coverage , deductible, and what state they are located. If any one has any suggestions on what I can do to get insurance for about 4 grand a year that would be great! Also, I am located in CA.

Re: Insurance HELP!!!!!

Dude at sixteen having your own insurance you don't have a prayer getting decent quotes. If anything check with Gieco - they might be a little bit cheaper and if anyone in your immediate family is military check out USAA. Besides if you are getting a $30+ car at 16 you parents should have no problem paying for insurance no matter what it is.

Re: Insurance HELP!!!!!

Put the car in your parents name until your older and only be listed as a secondary driver. Otherwise your screwwwed.

I agree with FASTBLACK . I have Mercury insurance and pay about 1k a year, granted I'm 33 years old. Put the insurance under your parents

Re: Insurance HELP!!!!!

I have mercury and I'm insured for Mercedes E55 and G35C and it cost me around $1100 a year. Pretty cheap..(im 30yrs old) Finally.

But you guys are young, expect to pay alot. Yes it would be cheaper as an addition to your parents insurance, but some parents think that if you get your own and if you get into a serious accident injuring the other party that they can't sue them. But since you are 16 I don't see how that can apply here. Also your parents might thing paying for your insurance is one more step in teaching you responsiblity. (I hate when my parents did that to me, but love them at the same time).

G35Fanatic call AIS or Mercury. They will definately beat AAA prices. I had AAA for many years and they wanted $1800 a year for my G. Only plus side is, that I am able to drive any of my parents car. Whereas Mercury I only can drive the G35 and E55.

Re: Insurance HELP!!!!!

Open the phone book.. call all the companies in your area. Progressive, Geico, 21st Century, Wawanesa, AAA, State Farm, Farmer's, Allstate, whomever. Call them all and get quotes from everyone. Last time I shopped for insurance, my quotes from various companies ranged from about $300/6mo to $1200/6mo for the same coverage.

And whatever you do, do not get a ticket or have an accident. You just think it's expensive now...

Other options to reduce your rates... turn 25 and get married. BTW, when I was checking on rates for purchasing a car, my insurance company does not consider the BMW 330i to be a high-performance vehicle, and it would have been about $200/yr cheaper to insure than my G35.

WTF.....
I'm 18 and insured with AAA for around 950/year with full everything. You really need to have the insurance under your parents name and that they are the primary driver. Also know that changing your deductible amount will change your monthly amount. Lastly, Mercury insurance is pretty crappy. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Re: Insurance HELP!!!!!

Hey man may I suggest you get a Costco account and then use their Auto Ins. company. I'm 26 and had Mercury (THEY SUCK A$$) for several years. Didn't really care cuz' I just had a civic. After I bought my G Mercury gave me several false quotes and after it was all said an done I was paying around $1700 a year with a perfect clean record. I shop at Costco once in a while and noticed they had an Auto Insurance Plan for members. It is through AMEX which is a reputable company as far as I'm concerned. The quote they gave me for full coverage with a $500 deductable was about $400 less per year. Give that a try but also be aware that no matter how good a driver you are your age is your enemy till your like 30 so getting screwed by Insurance companies is common place for a young male. Good luck!

Re: Insurance HELP!!!!!

Thank you guys for all your help. Also, I was wondering.. what if I just insure my dad under the car and in case of an accident I was wondering if I would still be covered if he tells the insurance company he let me borrow his car? Also, can you guys please give me some sort of estimate on how much the insurance should be around(roughly) with full coverage?

Thank You.... Joe

Re: Insurance HELP!!!!!

Guys, the insurance companies are not as stupid as you think. They can run checks IF they want, to see how many licensed drivers there are per address and insure the cars accordingly. How many cars can you drive at one time anyway is their thought. If they don't then you may get away with saying you are only a part time driver on the Coupe. But the first accident or ticket they find out about, UP your insurance goes and quite possibly your parents as well.
Not for nothing but a Coupe as a first car at sixteen is a risk for most kids. Good luck and drive like you are 50 is my suggestion.
