Double/Re Tinting?

Double/Re Tinting?
I'm not satisfied with the tint on my car and was wondering the best way to go about redoing this. I had the dealer do it when I got the car, and just didn't think much of it at the time (first time I've gotten a car). I read removing the old tint, just sucks... and I'm not sure about the logistics of a "double tint". Anybody?

you can go ahead and just rip off your old tint, but in some areas, there's going to be some residual glue.. and that $hit is a b*tch to take off.. i made the mistake of pulling the tint off myself and when i went to get retinted, my installer spent about 1/2 hour getting rid of the residual glue.. he didn't charge me for the extra time to remove the excess, but i would recommend just having your new installer to remove the old tint and apply the new tint.. it's just easier having someone professional to do it..

pulling the tint off and cleaning off the old glue is not as hard as you all are putting it off to be. I use to tint my old ride(worked for a place called mr tint) and when i would get pulled over, i would pull if off instead of getting a ticket. IF it is pulled off a more than a 90 degree angle with a slow, consistant pull, majority of the glue will come off. All thats left to due is use a bottle of water with soap mix to spray on the window, and then use a razor blade flat on the window to scrape it off. presto, clean window, ready for new tint.
as for double layering tint, I once put 5% over 5%. That means that when only 5% of the light came through before, after the double tint, only 5% of what light did come through shines now. this is great when you want it dark, but in the dark, its takes some getting use to when lookin out the window.

yeah, i agree, it's not THAT difficult.. but for a newbie or someone who doesn't know what they're doing, it can be.. the only area i had some residual glue was the rear window.. the four side windows came off easy.. it's just easier for some to have someone else who know's what they're doing do it..

Depending on the type of tint you have, it can either be a pain or a breeze. My first tints was some cheap Canadian brand and I could've easily removed it myself just with my hands and nothing else.. had I known it was that easy. I got charged like $50.00 to remove the old film.. could've saved that 50 dollars. If you feel that the tint has a strong bond to your window then I suggest you have your tinter remove it. They may or may not charge you.
