Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

I feel the pain in this post 100%. I've only owned 3 new cars in my life and have had this trouble with each. I was even protective of my Mitsubishi Mirage and went to the trouble of getting dings out of it. Just as an FYI in Georgia, many police precincts will not give you judgement on door damage caused by others in a parking lot. I have friends who are traffic police, so I unfortunately know first-hand that I'd most likely be responsible to fix it at my cost. Getting in a possible confrontation about a ding just isn't worth it.

I've come to the conclusion many people are way too careless about their actions and a select few are vindictively jealous. I always park far away and have a secondary vehicle for going to the unavoidable kid-friendly places like movie theatres and shopping malls. Even so, there will be unavoidable dung-eaters who will end up finding a way to cause a dent in your car.

I consider door dingers who leave the scene of the crime as vandals. It's not really much different from having your car keyed. Even if it is an accident, own up to it. Kids invariably will do this, but the parent/guardian with them is still responsbile. They break a vase in Neiman's, you gotta pay for it, so this is no different. Just next time take your anger out in GTA3 and beat up the Jeep and its driver in the game, not in real life. There's no reason to risk your safety or possibly getting jailed as good as it would feel at the time :-).

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

When you guys take an eye for an eye -y ou should also leave a note explaining why you did what you did. These clueless idiots will probably come back to their damaged car and say, "Gee, someone has vandalized me!" They will never link your door ding with their damage.

By leaving a note, these people will probably not park close to ANYBODY in the future.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

I'm not a religious man, but I just wanted to clear up a common misconception before people start say 'an eye for an eye' anymore:

Matthew 5:38-41
38. You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. 39. But I say to you, Do not resist evil: but whoever, shall inflict a blow on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also: 40. And to him who wishes to enter into a law-suit with thee, and to take away thy coat, allow him thy cloak also: 41. And whoever shall constrain thee to one mile, go with him two.

An interpretation: God had enjoined, by his law, (Leviticus 24:20,) that judges and magistrates should punish those who had done injuries, by making them endure as much as they had inflicted. The consequence was, that every one seized on this as a pretext for taking private revenge. They thought that they did no wrong, provided they were not the first to make the attack, but only, when injured, returned like for like. Christ informs them, on the contrary, that, though judges were entrusted with the defense of the community, and were invested with authority to restrain the wicked and repress their violence, yet it is the duty of every man to bear patiently the injuries which he receives.

I borrowed that from a text in my old religion class... I've always thought it was interesting that people used a biblical lesson on self-restraint as an excuse for vigilantism...

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

Take a pill dude....not just a little one, find the big one in the bottle and take two of them. Call a cop, file a report, take pictures and get his insurance to pay for a new door! Then sue him for your trouble, cash his check and buy some stuff.

I've done this, and it works just fine. The guy with the Jeep probably doesn't care about his car, or else he wouldn't have done this, so you probably didn't bother him as much as he bothered you. So in my book...he won.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

the secret to not getting dings is not to park in the middle of nowhere, but rather in the middle of everywhere.

when i park, i park as close to the entrance of where i intend to go as possible, if this means several laps around the lot, so be it, i refuse to walk that extra 100 feet. to date, not one door ding in any car i've ever driven.

my rationale behind this? most dings come as a result of children being driven by their parents to the destination. most people of age to have children will not spend the extra time looking for a close spot and park where there is plenty of room (incidentally, you park in the space area to stay away from other cars), now they are more likely to park next to you than away from you, so boom, ding.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

All this talk of retaliation got me thinking...would I fight back for something that I worked hard for? Yes.

Someone mentioned that they would not be mad if their microwave was scratched, considering a G35 to be another appliance. If I got a new microwave, and it was scratched, whether during packagin, delivery or other....I would sure as hell return it and get a new one .

But I have another reason for this reply:

I was parking, and forgot how low the coupe is, so I took a turn too late only to kiss the little useless Island they put in the middle of parking lots. My baby got scratched (bad)....but I have no one to get pissed at, no one's hood to bash, and no windows to break. I did it myself....and I can't get mad at anyone, so I don't get mad.

But if someone did that to my car, there would be hell to pay. But why get mad at yourself? We all need to blame someone, it's human nature. But there would not be a need for blame, if people were a little more cautious in life (myself included).

For my current situation, the only people I can get mad at are the "body shop" people....total bill to fix this 6" scratch? $596.29 Thats right, no joke. 3.6 hours for "paint prep" 3.6 hours for "parts removal (taking off the bumper...)". I can buy a factory lip and install it myself for less than that, but I want this wound fixed. When the paper was handed to me, I lauged at the guy, I laughed straight in his face then walked away without saying a word. I didn't want to argue with him, it was not worth it. The last thing he heard from me was my exhaust at 6krpms speeding away from his stupid a$$ shop.

Moral of the story, if you do stupid stuff, you can't blame anyone. If someone else does stupid stuff to you, get revenge or recourse, any way possible.

P.s.: FEEL SORRY FOR ME DAMNIT!%#@

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

alkettory,

don't get me wrong dude, i never said i condone such actions....just that i feel for the guy because i've been there before. for example, a few years back, i got my friend to repaint my suv since he was a manager at a autobody shop. the car was all nicely painted with all the dings repaired. less than a week later, someone dinged my car. to me, it's just an issue of no one giving a sh$t about other people's things....so yeah, i don't sympathize for the jeep. i wouldn't have gone to those extremes, but i don't feel sorry for the jeep at all. and just because i commented on some of the attitude going on here in the forum, didn't mean that i agreed with the poster's actions.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

thangbu,

I appreciate your position, and I don't think ill of you for it. My comment to you was directed only at the remark, "I just laugh when people go about preaching with that all-mighty-you should be ashamed-i would never be like that-attitude."

Yes, some people who preach are hypocrites; but some actually practice what they preach, and take the high road so to speak when confronted with such a situation.

Peace.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

I park away from other cars, and I mean far away....B.F.E (Butt-F**king Egypt) Still, there are cars that tend to park next to me. And those that do, normally car owners that care about their cars too. If I find a ding....of course I would get mad. Not mad enough to do damage on another person's car. Too afraid someone may see me with kicking another person's door in

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

HAHAHAHA Thanx for all the posts but here are my points:

1. I'm not a lil kid. I'm 25.
2. If I damaged someone's property, I would be responsible for replacing or repairing the damage.
3. I don't care if it was a lil kid, his parents are responsible for him/her.
4. Insurance wouldn't have done [censored]
5. I do have road rage and the two things you neva mess with, with a man is his girl and his whip.
6. I'm not condoning the behavior, I'm just telling you what I did.
7. And if it was to happen again, I would repeat history.

THIS IS MY OPINION AND ACTIONS....So SHHHH!

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding

I strongly suggest that you go seek professional help for your road rage. If you were that mad, why not wait for them to come out and explain themself? You know what, if I saw someone in a parking lot bashing someone's hood, I sure as hell would've called the cops and taken his liscence plate in case he leaves. Guess what, in a world where there is laws like the one we leave in, you would be the criminal, not the jeep's owner.

I got a few dings on my car and yes, I got upset but not at the point of going overboard like you did. No car can stay in perfect shape unless you leave it in your garage 24/7. I told your story to a few of my friends and their responds were all that you were mentally unstable (well in fact they used the word crazy but this sounds better). And just because you said this:

In reply to:

7. And if it was to happen again, I would repeat history.

I will repeat this, please go seek professional help.
