Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding
Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding
So..it's broad daylight, my girl and I decided to watch Bad Boys 2. I drove to the theater and parked in the furthest corner possible, thinking "No one is gonna park near me." To my dismay, when I come out, the parking lot is full, with a car next to me...a Grand Cherokee. As I was walking to my car, all I kept saying to myself is "That motherf0cker better not have gave me a ...AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
He rear passenger door, gave me a ding the size of a pencap. I snapped, I grabbed my Autolock and bashed in his hood. My motto is, " An eye for an eye;" it's too bad I take more than an Eye.
So the question is...should I fix it?? It's the size of a pencap so it's going to be hard to fix. Dentwizard and Dentdoctor is gonna charge a grip if i bring it to them or they might even laugh at me for being so **** but c'mon now...THIS IS MY G!!! It's supposed to be immaculate. Oh wells...just need to vent.
And yes, I knew it was him...I saw his white paint on my door. At first I thought it was bird crap...if it was, it must've been some bird crap coming from out of space so fast, that it created a ding. Therefore, it wasn't a beautiful day in my neighborhood.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding
i have mixed feelings in what you did. Anyways if there is no real paint damage, call dent wizard or whatever. The most they are going to charge you is $125.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding
I think this qualifies for "overreaction of the month" or something. The dinger-person probably gave it no thought, and like most people, has lots of dings on their car and doesn't care. Bashing in his/her hood in in retalitation is completely uncalled for and rightly criminal. You should be ashamed of yourself, not strutting your psychotic reaction here on the net.
A Ding Wizard type place can probably fix your little problem for $50 and you'll never notice the repair. The SUVs hood will probably need replacing, and cost $500 or so, assuming no underlying engine parts were damaged. That's justice?
How surprised would you be if that "pencap" sized ding coming from the rear passenger door of the SUV was caused by a 10 year old child? It's pretty hard to make much of an impression on a kid where door ding prevention is concerned.
Seriously, guy, put away the Autolock, park you car where it CAN'T POSSIBLY get dinged next time and get a grip on yourself. You did a terrible thing.

Clearly, this was an overreaction by this person.
"The dinger-person probably gave it no thought, and like most people, has lots of dings on their car and doesn't care."
Well thats the entire point, They SHOULD GIVE IT THOUGHT and SHOULD CARE. The added speculation that this was possibly done by a child dosen't make it ANY BETTER. Childern HAVE parents and need to be supervised. Parents are responsible for the actions of their minor childen.
Just because I may have no regard for someone else's property dosen't give me the right to be careless, negligent and damage it.
I am in no way condoning these actions. But lets consider this... this ENTIRE incident could have been avoided by either
A) this SUV owner parking somewhere else/ not as close.
B) SUV owner being less careless when opening their door.
C) leaving a NOTE with the driver's information and claiming responsibility for the damage.
none of these things were done.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding
First, let me say that I understand your reaction - I have been there myself (not with my G, however).
Secondly, you need to always look for the "perfect" parking spot. You know every car is going to have someone on the driver's side, but not always someone getting out on the passenger side. So I minimize my risk by parking with a curb on the right side of my car (or take the last spot in a row). Also, I look for the widest spot possible, no trees or lamposts for birdshit, and not near sidewalks or common walkways.
Lastly, how did you get away with bashing that guy's hood if your girl was with you? My lady would never let me do that (as much as I would want to), and if I did, she wouldn't speak to me for a week! Your woman must either be super-understanding or afraid that you'll beat her next.

Why is it that when you park in the furthest spot in the lot, some moron always parks next to you?

It's the rule.
My first door ding I got was at the mall. Parked way in the back. Came out 15 minutes later noticed a small ding like frosts. Except I had a little paint damage. I left a note on the car and shrugged it off. Got a call later that evening and he said it was possible, cause my kid did it and offered to pay for the damage. We settled for $100 bucks for dentwizzard to pull it out.
I expect to get dings on our car. Nothing really you can to avoid it, you can only minimize your chance in getting them.
Anyways, my motto is "never mess with a mans car." It's just not right.
(and frost, I know how you feel bro. I've done something similar when I was alot younger.)

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding
Obviously a huge overreaction. It was probably a little kid who dinged your car. Like you said, movie theater parking lot that eventually became packed, afternoon, rear door of an SUV. Probably too heavy a door for a child to easily control if he has only a little room to squeeze out. The driver of that SUV may have had complete respect for your vehicle, but there's nothing you can do about kids except euthanize them.
Doesn't mean you aren't owed something for the harm to your car, but that's chicken**** to go after someone's defenseless automobile. The only time it's remotely excuseable is when it's the driver's door that does the damage. What if your girl had swung those big, heavy G doors into a Ferrari without you noticing, and you came out to find an ***-sized dent in your hood? That ain't right.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding
You shouldve waited for the guy to come out or at least file a police report to make him pay for the damage, that way you wouldnt had to pay anything for the ding.
And it doesnt make sense to bash in someones car just because they gave you a ding. Thats not equal justice.
Personally if I came out of a movie theater all clueless as to whats going on and all of a sudden saw some dude bashing my hood in, I would tackle him like Terry Tate.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding
If you call the cops or leave a letter to the guy there is a 90% chance that he will say he's not responsible for the ding and that it was probably there before.
I think he did the right thing, next time the stupid SUV owner will think twice before parking next to a G...he just forgot to write "G owner" on the hood of the truck.

Re: Went Psychotic after seeing a Door Ding
i totally understand how frostylfe felt and may have reacted the same way too if someone dinged my car...i don't know. but to say that dings happen and to just accept it is wrong. that is what's wrong nowadays....people have no respect for other people's property or anything else as a matter of fact. i would never just blindly open my car door forcefully if another car was next to me--no matter what type of car it is. because i respect other people's cars. to me, people who ding other cars (either purposely or accidentally) are in the same boat as people who hit and run parked cars. they all should be taken outside and beat to sh$t. call it an over-reaction, but i'm just sick of people not caring and not taking responsibility.

Just wait until the owner of the SUV comes back and get a witness in the parking lot, and then ask the owner of the SUV to open the rear door to see if it lines up with the ding. If it does line up then youll have to get it in writing and make him sign a piece of paper saying that he caused the damage if he doesnt comply call the cops then file a report on him.
If he were to get caught bashing in the guys hood he wouldve gotten arrested and wouldve had to pay the owner of the SUV for more expensive damages.
