0-60 Times, 280HP vs 298HP

Just learned about this place and think this is awesome but couldn't find info on this burning question which I have been searching the posts for here and all over the web. Question is this, what is the difference in real world 0-60 times for the 298 hp on 2005 6 speed and my 2003 280 hp 6 speed model? I am seriously considering getting out of my 2003, which I love, to get into the 2006 6 speed when it becomes available but need to know the 0-60 time of the 298 hp. Car & Driver reported the 2003 6 speed as 5.5 sec but never reiviewed the later model and I havn't found any web info on any review for the later engine. Second question is: while at Lokey Infiniti last week for service, I saw the available dealer installed modifications which includes the cold air induction & intake and exhaust changes which I was told should add about 20 hp in total if I purchase all. Does anyone have track times for what this adds to 0-60 times on the 298 hp 6 speed? I would really appreciate the info if it is even available and I figure if it is, someone here would have it. If this has already been posted, I apologize but searched and couldn't find it. Thanks.

Any gains made are basically offset by the 19" wheels. Both cars are going to do the same time basically assuming you know how to launch/shift. CAI doesn't really do anything.. if you are going to make a noticable difference in the 0-60 in this car it would take either replacing the ECU, regearing, or FI.

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful but disappointing. No reason for me to make the change then even though I'm sure I'd enjoy the other upgrades on the 2006 and love the Athens Blue (have the Brilliant Silver now which is discontinued). If it's not faster, closer to 5.0-5.2 range, I will look at other choices when my lease expires in 2007.

18 FWHP = ~ 14.5 whp.

you'd never notice or feel 15whp.

There are no aftermarket ECU upgrade for this car yet. Only a reflash.

I think there are couple aftermarket ECUs available for G35 and 350Z. eg: UTEC by Turbo xs and UNICHIP

That is not true. You will notice 15 rwhp.

Crawford Cats + new 1/2" spacer + Iso Thermal will give you =20 rwhp & 20 ft-lb. of torque on an 03'/04' Coupe!

You will feel it! For $1000 installed, you can go wrong w/ these 2 mods!

If you want more than that, you need to go F1. Any mods after the above will not be cost effective.

A very good stock 0-60 time is 6 seconds. It doesn't matter which year of 6mt coupe. I don't think many people would be able to do a 6 second run. You really need to know how to launch the car. I think my best was just under 6.1 sec. stock.

The general concensus seems to be they are about the same. But according to some other members there's a mod thats work amazingly well on the 05 and 06 "rev-up engine" called the motordyne kit, which according to them has showed really really substantial gains.

Heavier Car + bigger rims + less torque should offset what was only a minimal difference to begin with. and if there is a difference at all, you throw in the fact that no two runs are equal ( you know this because when your at a drag strip, your 2nd run will likely produce a slightly different time then your first run, and even if its the same, your rt time or the speed you trap is likely to be different) all of these unknown variable of racing in a straight line, 1/4 times such as launching your car, reaction times, would really make the 0-60 time difference into nothing. Meaning your just as likely to run a faster time with the 280hp model as your are for a 298hp model, just depends how you drove on that particular run. I think the hp upgrade was just part of a marketing scheme to help the g35 compete better with the new cars that are coming out, in terms of hp numbers with other cars, such as the is350. And it doesn't actually do squat in real driving performance. And in terms of which car would produce a faster track time?? Well that depends.....Did you shift better when you were driving the 280hp or the 298 hp??
