Vdc?

Hi all,

I just bought a 2003 G35 coupe 6MT, and I was wondering...what's the VDC?

vehicle dynamic control...basically your sophisticated traction control and yaw control system which you deactivate if you're a car guy.

So I want to keep it off? Do I always need to switch it off, or does it stay off?....and why do I want to keep it off?

Do more research before you turn it off...It automatically is turned ON everytime your start your car (for a reason)...Look into it further...do a search theres a good thread called "vdc or no vdc" (from memory) or something along those lines.

All it does is cut your power to the engine when it detects slipping of your tires.. so its good to keep it ON, unless you are drag racing... i would recommend to keep it on at all times.. especially in rain/snow..

It's your babysitter. It's meant to save you from yourself.

Heh it does quite a bit more than that... It will actually start braking wheels that slip. Try going around an on-ramp at high speed. It can scare the crap out of you if you don't expect it.

If its even alittle wet out don't turn it off for sure.

I suggest leaving it on 99% of the time, if you have to swerve out of the way of something it can save your butt as it helps you keep control of the car in emergencies.

Many people turn it off so they can race or to do some high performance driving. Have your fun but be safe... You can also read the threads of "omg I totaled my G"

if you were on an icy road skidding towards the shoulder of a highway and the VDC was enabled, it would be pretty hard to slide the back end around to avoid going off the road... This is my only fear of the VDC.

I am pretty sure it brakes only the wheels it thinks is necessary to correlate the steering angle and the yaw sensor. So, it can brake one or more wheels at a time. I agree leave it on unless you are on the track or in need of a 'smokey burnout'. It can/will save you from yourself on the road.

Welcome Spirogyro, and congrats on your G.

As you can tell from the responses, the VDC is a terrific option and tool available on more and more rides these days. (yes I know it's standard on our G's - )

I'd suggest a quick read in the owner's manual for a full description of its functions and advantages, and further suggest great care when disabling it.

The manual will describe situations which may necessitate disabling it, but it will caution you to otherwise be very careful doing so.
There are many threads here where the owner has done so and wished they hadn't.
Be careful, and enjoy that G.

C.

Congrats on your G35 purchase!! Please read your owner's manual so you learn a lot about the car, including what VDC means and does, what happens when you hold down the unlock button on your key fob for 5 seconds, etc.

I would recommend leaving VDC on most of the time, for you, other people, and your car's safety
