Ok here's the deal. I've always had an inkling about my car since the day I bought it that I was getting shafted on my fuel mileage. Traditionally, a vehicle will get better mileage as it ages as all the engine internals work themselves into better seating and ease of motion. I take regular trips from Bloomington IN to Akron OH to visit my family back there. I usually squeeze just over 400 miles out of one tank.

The other day I'm talking to BlackbirdV35 and we're talking mileage...

His response: 'OWNED!'!!!

WTF is wrong with my car? I dont drive it like hell and I'm skipping gears when conditions are ideal, just like a well-seasoned manual driver should. Right now I'm averaging 16 city, 20 hwy. BlackbirdV35 says he's pullin 28hwy. I knew I was getting hosed all along.

WTF is wrong with my car? I have no soot around the tailpipes so its running pretty clean. But I swear the motor always feels and runs rougher-sounding and with more racket than I think it should. Not to mention in higher gears under a low torque load it cackles like my 1985 Cutlass did when I was 16.

Reccommendations? Next time I'm up at Dreyer-Reinbold I'm talking tune up to them or something. Maybe I have an ignition problem. Talk to me guys. My coupes an 05 6mt premium coupe.

Tell us a bit about your car.

Year, Coupe/Sedan, Manual/Auto Tranny, Mods, etc.

I get about 23.5 combined city/highway. There are are mods you can do to increase fuel economy a bit, such as a Z-Tube and higher flowing air filter.

I have a K&N Drop-In Filter in my car along with a Z-Tube and a 3/8" Motordyne Plenum Spacer and my fuel economy has been up a consistent 1.8- 2.2 MPG over the past 7 or so months of having the mods on my car.

Does your exhaust smell particularly bad once the car is warmed up?

Mpg

I just did all highway driving this weekend with my '04 6mt coupe, and my avg. mgp was at 24.8, although my navi stated 25.8, which I'm very happy with.
City is a different story. I usually get around 19mpg, but last week mostly being stock in traffic I got an avg. of 16.8 mpg. I try to have fun and enjoy my driving so I try not to mind the gas. Take care.

Diiiiiiiiiick!

I have to have a lil' bit of lean...I'm 6'5".

I have an 05 6mt premium coupe, no mods yet. My exhaust smells fine, 'cept after a can of baked beans.

Cruise at 80. Before 3700 mile ckup...oil was at lowest permissible level on the dipstick. I told the dealership it ws burning oil. It got progressively lower as I approached that first ckup.

Is it low again? Any added friction is going to result in a loss of efficiency.

20mpg on the hwy? That definitely doesn't sound right. I drove from L.A. to Vegas on half a tank of gas. Basically I could have made it to and from Vegas on one full tank of gas. My mileage in the city really sux but is awesome on the hwy. Maybe a trip to the dealer is in order.

Cruisng at 80 has a significant impact on your mileage. Try dropping down to 70 and then checking.
