Getting about 11.2-11.7. Less than 1k miles on it, and still driving it like I stole it. Just deal with it Performance cars and luxury cars (whichever you call your G35) are always pretty lousy with mileage...did you expect to be getting like 300-400 to the tank? Unless you do insane amounts of highway driving, you won't be near there

Dang, my '05 6MT has about 800 miles on it right now and I'm coming up on my 3rd fillup probably this weekend. The first fillup I got 16.9 MPG and the second fillup I got 17.8. This next fill up should be even better according to the miles I've gone on this tank already. Honestly, I was expecting a lot less on that first tank since I was playing around a lot. I definately don't drive it conservatively and this is in a lot of stop and go traffic during the week. I try to shift around 3000 to conserve a little, but usually that doesn't last very long. Gotta love that exhaust note above 4000. I have to say that I am pleased with the MPG so far and it looks like it will keep getting a little better for a little bit. If I could just shift at or before 3000 for an entire tank I'm sure the MPG would be very good for this car. <--Probably will never happen

I have filled up 120$ worth of Gas in the past couple weeks.. the result.. just over 600 miles on my trip meter. WhaTTT IS GOING ON?? I have just under 1000 miles on the car could this be that my engine still is not broken in and i am going to get horrible mileage until it is? somebody help! By the way i hav an auto
Have a 6MT and want to save gas; when just cruising around keep RPM's under 2000... I get 25MPG running around Houston most weekedays like this, just commuting.

I wanna know why the hell it is that this VQ engine has been recognized as a technological wonder for the past 11 years by Ward's Auto for its 'simplicity' and 'fuel efficiency'. Because it totally sucks gas like a Ferrari.

Good thing we've at least gotten around the gas-guzzler tax!

Excerpt from Wards website:

Nissan 3L V-6

"An important benchmark," quotes the logbook for Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.'s silken "VQ" 3L DOHC V-6. "The fact that this engine achieves what it does without variable valve timing, turbos or other `tricks' is crucial -- and makes the VQ very special."

The VQ's straightforward design -- reflecting a philosophy at Nissan to simplify componentry -- sees a 10% parts reduction over the iron-block 3L V-6 the VQ range replaces, with weight savings of more than 100 lbs. (45 kg). Similar weight reductions in the reciprocating masses and valvetrain also impart the 3L VQ with its whispering NVH levels. The same reductions are the primary contributors to this engine's almost eerie rev-happiness. Want to scream along in third gear at 80 mph (128 km/h) and 6,000 rpm? No problem -- the driver's hard-pressed to notice the difference between that 6,000 rpm and cruising in fifth gear at 2,000 rpm.

Nissan's intensely automated Iwaki assembly plant takes molten aluminum at one end and pops three versions of the VQ out the other. In between, the blocks are deburred by robots, the crankshafts are microfinished by robots and groups of two dozen engines ride a gleaming merry-go-round bench tester, simultaneously tested by robots. A full 70% of the entire VQ engine-making process is automated.

Such is the intense thought Nissan places in the VQ build process. Similar effort went into the VQ range's design and engineering -- and that's what makes the 3L VQ the best normally aspirated V-6 on the planet.

Ummm, it may be just me, but you're quoting their comments on their 3 liter engine. That may have been written in 2002 and not about their newer engine.

If you look at our engine compared to others in our class, the gas mileage is not bad. There's not much directly in competition with the G35 coupe, but the sedan is easier to see. The Mercedes, Lexus, BMW and Jag competitors are slower for the most part. The models which are competitive with Infiniti have gas mileage which is also comparable.

Additionally, if you look at the de-tuned version of the VQ engine - the Altima and Maxima, you'll see that the gas mileage is better. So if you want a car with better gas mileage, go buy a Geo. If you want a sports car, quit yer bitchin and drive the wheels off of it already.

Keep track of how much gas you are putting in the tank; keep in mind its a 20 gallon tank and at least on my car the yellow light comes on with 5 gallons left in the tank. I easily hit around 300 miles and I fill up around 16.5 gallons usually. I got 25k miles on my car and do a mix of mostly city/ some highway

I always get about 340-380 Miles per tank unless I drive like a complete maniac for a whole entire tank of gas, and I usually do about 15-16 gallon fillups. I do about 60% back roads driving too.. which is where our car seems to get its best economy, which(for me) is driving on a back road with about a 45 MPH speed limit in 6th gear.

If you want to increase your milleage, use your cruise control whenever possible. The car runs more efficiently with cruise control on at a constant speed than the economy that you get by manually operating the gas pedal at that same speed(just something I've noticed over time, since I like to have fun testing out different fuel economy trends).

Get the 6mt if you want better mileage. With no changes in driving habits I'm getting:

03 5at 18.7mpg (rated 19/26)
05 6mt 21.1 mpg (rated 19/26)

It all depends on your driving habits, i actually tested this out. If you drive freeways often and used cruise control or light tapping of the gas pedal, you can achieve 24 MPG +. However when i used a whole tank of gas on local using similar driving habits, i could only achieve around 17-19. But when i actually drive how i usually drive i get around 15.
