question about 6mt tranny, something wierd happend!

well, after about of not driving my 2005 6mt, i go to put it in reverse, and it feels like there was something making it stuck, but if i gave it more gas then it would move, and there was nothing blocking it, so i was wondering what this was, or if anybody else had this? its like a big knock/bang when i go to put in reverse and try to roll, like something that hasnt been moved in a while, no it like kinda gets stuck in that psoition? what is it?

I don't think there are synchros on 1st and Rev. I may be wrong. But that would attribute to notchiness and even difficulty in getting into gear. I know there have been times that I had difficulty getting into R. It felt as though the teeth weren't meshing and it was being blocked.

Ahhh, yet another 6mt problem. My car's tranny is currently at Infiniti being replaced because the tranny sucks. What year is your car?

You sure you didnt just ruin your syncro on Reverse? This has been one of the better gearboxes that I have driven (2k5 6mt) compared to camaro's and mustang's. The G has always shifted easy for me, when in the stang's and camaro's reverse is not sync'd and you have to double clutch or stick it in second gear before reverse.

Are you leaning too far back in the seat? Maybe you arent getting the clutch down far enough. I dunno, guess you can always have it checked out, was just giving my .02

This happens on many transmissions... If it is hard or will not go into reverse, put it in first and then it will easily go in reverse...

All 1st. gears have syncros, no reverse do; so sometimes you have to manually sync if it is stuck; go into first, then it will easily go in reverse.

Stop babying the clutch... just kidding. If that's the case, I have no idea what's going on. I'm not experiencing that.

Sorry... =\

I experience the same thing actually...after not driving the car for a few days, when I put it in reverse and hit the gas...upon engaging the clutch it sounds like something is a little stuck and it needs to "break" past it to get moving. Not sure what it is either.

Is it possible it is your brakes which sometimes have a small build of rust and give it that stuck feel for a brief moment?

Mine will do that sometimes after it sits for a day or two after getting wet.

^Ditto. My first thought was that the brakes rusted. Was your e-brake set?

Haven't had this happen on my coupe (I drive it too frequently), but I have experienced this in the past with several cars.

I think it's the brakes.
I have a habbit of washing the car before i put it away for a few days. Sometimes I don't get to drive it around to get the rust off the rotors.
The brembos are bad when it comes to rusting. Most of the time you just hear a knock or a bang when the pads come unsiezed. After that the car rolls free. Don't worry. It's not a tranny problem. Sometimes i just put a block of wood behind my wheel to keep it from rolling back if I don't have a chance to get the rust off the rotors instead of setting my e brake.

Interesting...I'll have to see if the noise returns after I wash the car. It could very well be the issue.
