PS2 vs Potenzas...Can I choose?

On the 19in OEM rims, I see some cars that came with PS2 and others have RE050As. I have ordered my 06 which is due in 3 weeks, can I pick which tires I get or is will the dealer swap them if I ask? The PS2s are rated higher in traction and treadwear than the potenzas, and I would prefer them.

which 19in OEM rims you talking about? are you talking about 05 ones in infiniti lot or running on the streets? i dont think you have options to choose which tires you prefer. just hold on to the tires on your rims...you will have to replace them sometime anyways

PS2 is better than RE050A IMO, if only because the Pilots are lighter. Honestly though, I don't know any stock G35C that has PS2 tires on.

Hmm I could have sworn I read some threads in which people were talking about their stock 19in PS2s....maybe I was mistaken. The one 06 I have seen up close with 19s did come with Potenzas. I cant believe the treadwear rating is only 140 AA on these while the PS2s are grippier and have 220 AA A ratings. Well the Potenzas ARE cheaper so i guess its all even in the end...Thanks for the info guys!

Yes I concur. I had these tires and they were fantastic. They remained quiet even after they were significantly worn down.

I was considering those Goodyears, but they dont have the OEM sizes. They are 35 series for the 19in. Other than the speedo being off, I didnt want an even more gap between the tires and the wheel well by going with a lower series tire. Also the goodyears were rated higher than the potenza but lower than the ps2 in a tire rack comparison test.

not true...unless you're speaking of a dif comparo than I am...in the December 2005 issue of Car and Driver, the PS2 came in 4th and the Goodyear came in 1st out of 11 brands in the "Max Performance" tire rating category. According to tire rack who quoted the C&D article to me, they feel the Goodyear's a better tire...in fact, in the article it speaks of Tire Rack offering their test cars and track for the C&D article. It's on page 102 if you have the issue.

Every tire company has a different treadwear rating system. One company might have a 100AA rating but lasts longer than another with 200AA rating. The Potenzas do wear out fairly quickly, but I don't know how much better the PS2s will be in treadwear. My guess would be a couple thousand miles better.

btw...I'm gonna switch to the PS2s as well to save weight.

Umm NO...thats the whole purpose of having UTQG ratings. They are federal standards that all tires are tested against, so no way will a 100 rated tire last longer than a 200 rated tire with the same kind of driving styles in the same environment.

The Goodyears are obviously a nice tire but they are fatso, overweight compared to the PS2.

i shredded a set of good years in 7K they were alright but not the best if you want my opinion im fan of the PS2 for a couple of reasons.
1) It was a light weight tire and had predictable patterns on the road
2) Treadwear was at 20K with hard driving
3) Stayed quite until i got to steel
