Oil Change at the Dealer
Oil Change at the Dealer
I went for my first oil change yesterday. It was terrible. First they said that they had no oil filters for the G and then they managed to find one and they wanted to charge me $70 for the service when I thought I had free oil changes with my lease. Then they just wanted to charge me $10 for the oil filter replacement and so I left. Went to Jiffy Lube Express and I was out of there in 15 minutes!!!
Are you guys having the same problem?

Re: Oil Change at the Dealer
Ggirl, It was too bad you had a bad visit at the dealership. Sometimes nothing goes right, lol. Was there some confusion as to whether your oil changes were included in your lease deal or not? If you negotiated this, then you'll have to discuss it with the service manager.
Jiffy Lube are an ok outfit, but they may not be familiar with our G's. If not, they may not have taken off and replaced the underside engine cover properly. There are many securing bolts on it that need to be checked to be sure the cover doesn't fall off or drag on the ground.
Yeh, $70 for an oil change or even $10 for an oil filter is too much.
You might want to clarify that if you return for service. That charge may have included other services that you were unaware of. Good luck girl, and enjoy your G.

I second the post on being careful with the Jiffy Lubes of the world. I have first hand experience, many actually. And as with any place that doesn't specifically "know" your car, the level of service can be great, good, or a disaster. This goes for the Goodyear, Firestone, Meineke, Midas, you-name-it repair places.
While your dealer might have done something completely different and seemingly wrong, at the very least, you expect them to know your car and know how to fix it properly. I will say that I took mine to an indy shop the first oil change and told them they had to remove the full cover on the bottom of the engine----that's about 32 little screws, all of which I wanted them to replace. Naturally.
But, when I took my car later on to a dealer, they pulled about seven screws out and had a window into the filter and the drain plug. You learn something new every day. Ain't it grand!
Oh yes, and by the way, watch out for "Nippon" brand oil filters vs. Genuine Nissan oil filters. When I called a bunch of independent repair places that did Infiniti and Nissan repairs, most said they use "Nippon" oil filters. I even went to one place that said they used Genuine Nissan and then showed me a "Nippon" oil filter. I told him that wouldn't work and left since he wouldn't buy one from the dealership at the agreed-upon oil change price.
Ggirl, just be careful, plz, with those cheaper, quicker, generic auto oil/repair places. We on this forum would really hate to read your next post which would be, "they RUINED my car at _____ " fill in the blank.
Otherwise, drive on and enjoy the ride! Tell us what you do next with your car---we're interested!

Re: Oil Change at the Dealer
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Did you schedule an appointment and they still didn't have filters? I've had similar experiences, but not with oil changes. Speaking of oil changes, my baby needs her second one, I gotta make an appointment

Re: Oil Change at the Dealer
Just any fyi...I was about to get my dealer to agree to free oil changes for the duration of the warranty when negotiating the price on my car. He didn't put up much of a fight on that part of the negotiation.
For all you people that stuck paying msrp you might be able to at least get your dealer to agree to free oil changes then you don't have to ever worry about jiffy lubes....
