Oil Change after Break-in??

How many of you have gone for an oil change after the 1200mi/2000km break-in period? I know this was common practise on older performance cars .... but is this necessary in our G? Also, did you guys opt for synthetic or regular oil?

f2chow, I waited to 3500 km for first change, and went to synthetic. I will now change about every 5000 km. works for me.

I changed at 1200 miles to regular oil and plan to change again at the originally recommended 3750 to synthetic.

I changed at 500 miles (dino-OEM filter) and then at 1250 miles (mobil 1 syn-K&N Filter) and will change every 3 months or 3000 miles.. sounds like over kill huh? Well my friends are drag and stock racing competitors.. they have a bit of expertise to divulge... I do it myself and it is not that $... Plus I like working on my "G"..

Here is a post found on 6mt.net about oil changes.

"Here is a link that you might want to review re oil.

You can buy a Mobil One oil filter that will fit the Infiniti. I think that it is filter 1101 or something like that."

Yes, you do want to change your oil after breakin. This way, you eliminate any chances of having small metal shavings being embedded into your egine block. $30 is a wise investment to avoid any future problems. Noticeably powerloss and premature wear when your engine gets older. I switched to synthethic at the 3750 point.

Just got my oil changed today @ 1450 miles. Best part was it was free from dealer.

Re: Oil Change after Break-in??

I have 2,800 miles on the car, but I've owned it almost four months. The question is, do I have to take it in for service if it's been longer than recommended 3 months, even if I haven't reached 3,500 miles yet? Or can I wait until 3,500 regardless of time?

Re: Oil Change after Break-in??

there are two reasons I did mine early...
1. if there was any debris in the oil, you would have filtration issues.. No reason to change filter and not oil.
2. I have no idea if they use a decent quality dino oil from the factory.. They may, but I dont know that. While my oil wasnt looking very dirty at 1500, it was smelling alittle fuel rich. Not knowing if the original oil would hold up well like that, I just felt it was best to change early.

I went with the OEM filter and Mobil1 DriveClean 5w-30 (dino)... At the 4500 mark, I will go with Mobil filter and Mobil1 Fully Syn. I dont want to use syn til 5K...and I *only* went with the OEM filter because I was unfamiliar with the underside of the G. I really couldnt believe how small the filter was.. I wont have a problem using the tiny Mobil or K&N now that I've seen the oem up close. My maxima was still using the big E000 filter. this will take some getting used to (F000 size)

Absolutely Get it out of there. Mine was done at 3000miles and 5 months. I don't care what the recommendations are, I historically change my oil at 3000.....or sooner if I don't like the color. Medium Brown.

Re: Oil Change after Break-in??

I changed mine immediately after break-in, and wanted to switch to the M1 that I'm comfortable with, but the service manager suggested waiting till 7500 miles to go to the synthetic. I think that's hocus-pocus, but I opted to wait so I'll have at least two changes with mineral oil.

I'm also thinking about going with the M1 filter AND dropping down to 0 weight oil. Anyone have any suggestions/comments on this?

Re: Oil Change after Break-in??

I did mine early, right after break-in, too.

Oil is basically cheap insurance for your engine. It may not be "necessary," but you really have nothing to lose by changing it early.
