say i change my own oil, but i still want the stealership to do the other random "checks and inspections" as they do in the scheduled service. how will they price the service? i kno a lot of them would argue that the "major service" is a package and blah blah blah.. would they discount the price of the oil change or what?
and about future services... the reason i used to like getting my oil changed at the stealership was because they also did a however-many point "inspection" to make sure everything looks in order when i get the G serviced. im pretty clueless when it comes to checking for problems under my hood, so how do i go about this? im planning on changing my own oil from now on, but am worried about the other services that they offer.
thanks in advance. ;]

Check to see how much money you are saving by changing your own oil. In my case the dealer charges $10 for the labor for an oil and filter change. That's a no brainer, I give them the oil and filter and let them do the change. So my dealer reduces the service cost by $35 if I provide the oil and filter. My dealer charges $90 for the A service, $190 for the B service, and $530 for the C service.
The only other thing I recommend is that you become familar with what has to be done at the various intervals and be specific as to what you want them to do. Don't give them cart blanche power by saying give me the 30K service. If you do that, your dealer may do what in my mind is unnecessary and expensive services like a cooling system flush or fuel injection flush or transmission flush. I wouldn't consider any of these services until I had the car for at least 4 years and at least 80K miles, and these services will add hundreds of dollars to your bill. So be specific.

Easy, : find out what they charge for an O/Change and subtract it from the scheduled service charge.Originally Posted by auto_drive

Oil changes typically run about $30-$40 at the dealership.
