Coupe performance in snow?

i live in new england and the weather gets pretty bad here. I was wondering how others would rate their cars performance in snow with good snow tires. I am debating getting the car now or after the winter, would rather have it now but if they are as bad as my cobra in the snow then now way. thanks

i live in metro detroit and i previously had an 01 mustang gt, which was an SUV compared to the G. i just bought snow tires/wheel setup from tirerack.com and we'll see how they do. It just started snowing today and they did well so far. I bought 17'' JH3 alloys with Dunlop Sport M3 tires.

I drove my 2004.5 5AT coupe all winter last year in Boston, up and down 128, on the OEM Bridgestones. No big problem. First snow, I took it out and drove around to get a feel for it. Almost got stuck in a parking lot 'cause the traction control wouldn't let me move off a dead stop. Turned it off and it drove just like a real car :-). First RWD car I've owned in years and I loved it.

I don't think either the G or the beater Honda would "perform well" in the snow. I can say from experience, though, that the G can be safe and reliable in the snow. In the dry spells between the snowstorms, there's just no comparison.

I've elected not to get a winter set-up for the G because i want to save as much money as possible for a nice set of rims in the spring. This will be my first winter with the car. We don't get too much snow usually here in south Jersey so i hope i can manage to get around safely and efficiently.

I recommend a winter beater... because your G35 will not only not handle or accelerate well in the winter(especially on the OEM tires, and super-especially if you have the Michelin PilotSports).... but it will also take a tremendous beating from all the salt, road debris(ice, rocks, etc), and potholes that plague the streets of our area.

I bought a 4x4 Tacoma for myself to use. I have lived here all my life(28 years) and I live about 20 miles south of Boston. My last 2 cars were RWD sporty cars, and although it is fun and very manageable if the snow isn't too deep and you don't have to drive up hills... these cars also had all-season tires on them and nowhere near the power of a G35.

I notice that if the temperature gets below 30, the Michilin Pilotsports have horrible traction and spin like crazy.

After last nights 1 inch of snow, the idiot Highway Department in my town sprayed salt all over the streets, despite the fact that it is completely unnecessary and is wasting budget money that the highway department will need for February when all the real storms hit.

Basicly, because of the fact that there's salt on the roads now... My G is retired to my driveway for the rest of the year.

Attention all Massachusetts drivers.... PREPARE FOR 5 MONTHS STRAIGHT OF HAVING A DIRTY CAR!!

I too live South of Boston, but work in the northern part of the state, Last year was my first year with the G... I picked up a set of Blizzaks and drove all winter... mostly with a dirty car !!

drove like a Tank in the snow.... no problems, I did have to get used to the VDC... when to use it and when not too

My Coupe was fine in our southern Ontario winters, shod with Yokahama AVS winters on all 4 corners.

i hate driving the G in the winter. I went out and get a 97 Lexus ES300 to drive around in the winter and crappy weather. I say that Is you best bet, to get a winter beater or just a winter car that works well in the snow. Ilove my G to much to let all of the salt and sand eat the bottom of the car away.
