Cloth + 6MT?
Cloth + 6MT?
Hello,
After checking out the G35 web site and calling a local dealer I'm confused. Can one get a G35 Coupe with BOTH cloth seats and a 6 speed manual transmission? Is there any way to order one like this or if I want cloth do I have to get the auto stick? Thanks for your help!

Re: Cloth + 6MT?
I don't want leather, I hate it in the heat. I don't want an auto. I haven't had one in over 10 years. Plus I'm vegan and try to minimize my use of animal products. If you must know....I hope you feel better now. I don't equate leather with luxury.
Re: Cloth + 6MT?
All 6MTs (coupes at least) have leather. Cloth is not available.
I know MANY people who don't like leather seats. I personally HATE them in convertibles. Get into a triple black C5 vert wearing shorts that's been sitting in the sun all afternoon in Alabama in August and you'll understand, too. (C5's aren't available in cloth, either!).

As has been noted, that combination is not available. Either choose the stick with leather, or cloth with auto.

Re: Cloth + 6MT?
Sorry for questioning your reasoning for getting cloth. Now that I understand, I would raise another question for you to consider. I am going on a limb here and assuming that if your a vegan, you are very environmentally conscious. So I would suggest that we are not getting the best gas mileage, i.e. not environmentally friendly vehicles. Maybe a hybrid or something?
And yes, leather does = luxury.

Good point. Right now we are a one family car (Saab 9-3). That's going to be traded in for a 2004 Prius. For a second car we'd like something a little bit sportier. I can understand giving up some (OK quite a few) MPGs for performace, but I would never make that trade for an SUV, esp. if I never needed it to tow anything.
Re: Cloth + 6MT?
One more point on the cloth model...you will most likely have to place an order for it as dealers don't ordinarily order those for dealer stock.
Depending on your timeline, and since you already have a family vehicle, I would consider the 350Z, as you can get manual and having cloth is not a problem.
Good luck!

Re: Cloth + 6MT?
For those of you that "HATE" leather, did you have bad experiences with cheap leather interiors before? Have you ever owned a more expensive make of car with leather interior?
I too, was raised in a sh*tbox American sedan with pleather seats. In fact even the leather in some older Corvette's is crap (don't know about the newer ones). I can tell you this, however - the leather in the Infiniti is awesome: great looking, supple, and smells wonderful.
If you're worried about cold seats - get the seat heater option. If you're worried about hot seats, tint your windows and use a sunshade. Cloth in a $30 + car is just a no-no.

Re: Cloth + 6MT?
I would prefer cloth. I like the leather seats. They are very comfortable, but cloth has more friction so you don't move around as much as you do with leather. I think the seats in my 96 Celica were more comfortable.
Again, I like the seats in the G. I just don't care about leather. My friend said, after I had it, I would never go back to cloth. If I had the chance, I'd go back in an instance....and get the $ difference back.

Yep, I had the same decision to make. And I've been driving a stick for over 30 years. I went with the cloth - DG with willow looks awesome!
If you like to be anchored in your seat and like a soft suede feel on the seats, then you'll appreciate the cloth. I think leather is way overblown and there are a lot of people who are suckered into it because someone decided that it is a "luxury". Since when?? How many of you have leather in your living rooms? At least you don't have temperature extremes in your homes.
Another factor was that I didn't want to pay for the Brembos (I don't race) and 18's (which would require me to buy winter tires) just so I can drive a stick.

Re: Cloth + 6MT?
Like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. The picture in the post should help people make up their mind.
To me the cloth looks terrible...........
Also, the 18" tire and wheel package (incl. LSD) is a bargin and a real mistake not to get as echoed by most on this board..

Re: Cloth + 6MT?
I remember going to buy a '00 trans-am. That required leather too and it was horrible...it felt just like the vinyl on the '76 nova I had when I was a teen. I decided I only like cloth and purchased a formula which let me have cloth. Now I'm stuck selling a firebird with unpopular options in preperation for my '04 g35c (hint, hint if you are consitering cloth..think about resale).
The leather on the infiniti has to be among the nicest I've felt. Durable on the bolsters (where I imagine it needs to be) yet very soft and plush on the inserts.
I still worry about how leather wears though. As long as it is kept clean and cloth doesn't seem to show much wear after like 50k miles where leather will get that wrinkly, shiny "used" look in certain spots...especially on the left drivers seat lower bolster...
ps-keep in mind that when ordered with cloth the g35 is not a 30k+ car....it's under 30k...now that's a bargain!
