Z-tube?

Could someone tell me what the Z-tube is? I assume it has something do
to with the air intake and is it true that this helps with the gas milage.

Thanks,

Its the intake tube from the 350z, that allows better air flow compared to the intake tube for the g35. If it does have a effect on gas mileage its probably negligible. I really doubt it even has any effect.

it is the air intake tube on a 350z. it is missing the noise reduction baffles. it may give slightly improved mpg.

Get it... probably the best bang-for-the-buck mod you can get.

When coupled with a K&N drop-in air filter, I gained 1.8-2.2 MPG across the board on my car. I had my car for about 13 months before adding a Z-Tube and I had kept track of all my fuel economy up to that point. After putting the Z-Tube and K&N filter on, I continued to monitor my economy for another 8 months, and that's how I documented my 1.8 to 2.2 MPG economy gain.

You probably won't feel much of a HP gain(because it's about 7 HP... and you can't really feel that), but the economy gains are a fact that I can guarantee for you. The car also sounds much much better when you tach it up above 3K RPMs.

My suggestion is to start posting on my350z.com and the other Z message boards and asking if anyone is willing to sell you their used Z-Tube for like 50 bucks. That's what I did, and I couldn't be happier with the results..... especially for such a cheap price.

I've seen so many different types of this tube. Mainly, metals ones, carbon fiber, etc. Are these just knock-offs of the plastic Z tube? If so, is it ok just to get a nice carbon fiber one (I like the look of Carbon Fiber) instead of the plastic one?

maibe we should tell him about te AC line problem before he gets it and messes it up. if you get the z tube with the pop hcarger you should realy be carefull for the AC line cuz it will rub and mess it up but if you are goign with a z tube and stock air box combo then you should be fine, thats my setup.

It's not a 7 hp gain, I dyno'd 2.55WHP increase at the peak.

Here's a new one, with a K&N filter, if you can't find one used.

From the two dyno curves shown in your link, my guess is that the stock G tube would yeild better performance than the z-tube. From 4K to 6K RPM, the area under the curve is definitely better with the G tube. The minimal HP gain offered by the Z tube over 6K would never compensate for the lost below 6K RPM.

Z Tube and.........

If for no other reason the Z tube changes the way your Gee sounds. Then
you add a Stillen intake which contains a K&N filter and that makes your
car sound wild. After that install you can move on to a cat-back system
sticking with a true dual system for maximum rwh. After that, oh well that's
another mod......have fun!

From what I've read, some say don't go true dual system, having some back pressure is good and get the Y pipe

You'll learn a lot about cars. I sure have.

I have my Ztube with a Stillen intake, Just need to install it-- I can't bring myself to do it myself, plus I don't have the tools. (Not that that's a problem, just using it as an exuse)

I'm pairing up a New Kintex Plenum with Crawford highflow cats and a stillen intake with a ztube-- I'm looking forward to some niec N/A Gains and a good sounding [hell it already sounds awesome] a killer sounding G =)
