Ivory Pearl paint defects??

Anyone with a Ivory Pearl coupe with paint defects? I have noticed a couple of weird pinkish spots on my front bumper near the headlight. A Clay bar wont remove it, so I asked a bodyshop to look at it, it turns out its under the clearcoat.

Anybody else have a similar prob?

Re: Ivory Pearl paint defects??

I have one spot on my hood that looks darker colored (gray) than the rest. I don't see any pink spots though. I think it's because the paint is thin and you need a nice even coat of paint for it to match. I personally would not get it repainted as any metallic/pearl paint is tough to match.

I have some pinkish spots on my ivory pearl coupe also. Mine appeard after a mud like material got on the car. This substance etched into the clear coat. I haven't found anything to remove it either. The car was parked when the "mud" got on it and I washed it two days later. I have yet to determine what it was that splashed on the car. Most of the spots are on the front bumper.

I must have lucked out, every part of the car seems to have a very uniform paint job, but I do notice that certain bugs give off certain coloration that is hard to remove if you let it dry, so I try to keep an eye out and clean them as soon as posible.

I've noticed them on my car too. I removed some the last time with the Turtle Wax scratch and swirl remover. Give it a try.

I have prob had my coupe longer than most of you, as I am coming up on the 1 year mark. But something I am noticing, is the rear bumper skirt on the IP coupe, seems to be becoming a different color than the metal parts, since that skirt is plastic. Anyone else notice this?

I noticed that I mine as well, the paint looks different from the bumpers (plastic) to the body (metal). Is that normal?

The paint on the bumpers has a different makeup then that which is on the body. The bumper contains a flex for adhesion and expansion and makes it look a different shade. If you use touchup paint on the bumpers it will look terrible.

Re: Ivory Pearl paint defects??

o **** !!!... that is so weird... my IP coupe is basically brand new... and i had either bird feces or a bug, on my rear bumper... i washed it off like a day or two after the "hit" and it left a pink mark on the paint... i tried warm / cool water., towels, windex, everything to get it off... anybody have anything rather than turtle wax scratch remover to take it off??? i was thinking about trying vinegar... anyways... are there any places in So. Cali. that can match the IP? dont people have IP coupes with bodykits? they have to know somewhere that does it like maybe TPR or House of Kolor?

Re: Ivory Pearl paint defects??

Can anybody else shed some light on this ivory paint defect situation? I recently ordered a 05 Coupe in IP. Would the IP owners in this forum still recommend the color? My 2nd choice is Diamond Graphite should I call the dealer to switch?

Thanks.

Re: Ivory Pearl paint defects??

I don't want to jinx myself, but I have a 04 IP coupe and have not seen any paint defect issues.

My car was built in 6/04 so hopefully any issues that earlier cars had have been sorted out. I'm happy with the IP....I say go for it!

Re: Ivory Pearl paint defects??

ny more responses would be appreciated. I've been planning on an IP coupe for a while now, but that may change if their are a lot of issues with it. Jeez, I hope not.

Of course, I have yet to see the new Slate color.

Re: Ivory Pearl paint defects??

My IP was built in 9/03, and have no problems with any type of staining....not even the bird poop. I usually don't let it stand on the finish too long anyway...but no problems so far....other than my poor front bumper....eeehhhhhh the chips are really piling up!

Chips... ...*ugh* Let's hope they addressed the thin, easy-to-chip paint issue.

Re: Ivory Pearl paint defects??

FYI,
Any color pearl paint is practically impossible to match even from the factory. It has to do with the material of the fenders, the color of primer, the color of the base, and the number of coats of base, primer and clear. Any number of those combinations can alter the paint is some way. This is why most panels do not look identical. The only way to make the car match would be to paint the entire car the same way all at once....even then there would be tiny imperfections between plastic and metal panels...

If you would like to contribute to my "FI Fund" please make PAYPAL payment to "yakko1zzz@aol.com"... Thanks
