How important is a good dealer?
How important is a good dealer?
I'm new here and I just ordered a G35C 6MT with premium and aero. I looked around at 3 different dealers in the area. One of them had the car I *thought* I wanted available. (Diamond Graphite, graphite interior, with premium, without aero), Another had the exact same car coming in in mid August. The third only had a diamond graphite with willow interior, premium and aero arriving in late Aug/early Sept, and a Desert Platinum with graphite int., premium and aero, also coming in late Aug/early Sept.
Dealership 1 was a little out of the way compared to the two others, but if they gave me a better package (price, service, feeling) I'd buy there without blinking.
After visiting the two first dealers I was left with an uncomfortable feeling. Although I had stressed that timing was not really an issue, and that the only thing I was not flexible on was that it had to be a manual, one of the dealers were really pushy when I said I'd think about it and get back with him within a week. "Remember that this car is in limited supply, so think fast!" etc. etc. The other was so nonchalant about me being intersted in the car that I just didn't feel like buying from him. I know he'll just sell it to someone else, but come on! Customer service starts before the customer actually purchases the car! (That's what I think at least...)
The third dealership did not have the exact car I wanted, but late Aug/early Sept. was actually perfect timing. They also treated me and my wife very well. No pushing, no pressure. Being new to the Infiniti brand (this is the first new car I have bought) I do not know if all the "extras" the dealership offered is normal, but I was impressed:
1 - They have free pickup of your car when it needs to be serviced, and they leave a loaner car for you.
2 - Free oilchanges for as long as you have the car.
3 - Free storage of 2nd set of rims and wheels if you purchase winter tires through the dealer. (Nice since I live in an appartment.) So they will store my winter wheels during the summer and my summer wheels in the winter. I think they change them for free too...
4 - Free car wash everytime the car goes in for service/oilchange/repair.
The other dealers I talked to did not mention anything about any of these services so I assume they do not offer them.
The price was the same at all dealers, except at the 3rd dealer where I had to add the aero package. I ended up purchasing there because of the exceptional experience I had there and the great "extras" they provided for their customers. OK, so I am getting a Desert Platinum instead of a Diamond Graphite, but I was unsure of which of these two I liked best anyway... I could really take or leave the spoiler, so it did cost me $550 dollars extra to buy from this dealer, but I feel it was worth it!
Has anyone else gone with a slightly different car than they were first interested in because of a bad/good experience at a dealership, or am I crazy to have made a slight compromise on what I wanted?

Re: How important is a good dealer?
your dealer seems good. good svc.
like free oil changes, mine also does loner car.
beware of car washes. some on this board complained about rims getting scratched at car washes.

Re: How important is a good dealer?
you need to use the dealer you had the best impression of. If they can't take car of you before they get your money, do you think you have ANY chance of getting a problem solved AFTER they have your money?
Stay away from dealers that you have a bad feeling about.

I don't have a problem with letting everyone know that this was Devan Infiniti in Fairfield, CT. So far I can unconditionally recommend them. If you go there, ask for Brian, he's the guy who took care of me. Good guy. Let him know Henning sent you.

Re: How important is a good dealer?
Excellent post and, seemingly, the dealer, too! Thanks for telling us. And, oh yes, thanks for making many/most of us JEALOUS OF YOU!
Other Infiniti dealers: DID YOU READ HIS POST????
Must be quite a lot of competition in pricey Fairfield County, Connecticut. For crying out loud, I've bought plenty of new cars and a couple of luxury cars and I have not seen this kind of "extras" before. Wonderful.
And, in case you weren't sure about the Desert Platinum, I've got it. It's marvelous and like some of the other colors, kind of evolves in different lites. You'll like it.
Enjoy the ride.

Re: How important is a good dealer?
Thanks!
I went to one of the other dealers that had a desert platinum in stock yesterday and checked it out and I'll love it! There are many nice colors and I really like the black and red ones, but black is just so hard/time consuming to keep good looking and the red is a little to flashy for my taste. I feel the Desert Platinum is nice because it's close to silver, but without really being silver. Just different enough to stand out from all the silver cars out there, while at the same time staying easy to clean and forgiving when it comes to a little dust and dirt on the paint. This is one of the reasons I liked the Diamond Graphite color also.
