Re: Borla - Waste of $$$
Didnt mean to strike a nerve with this post, just my reaction to the Borla system. I was waiting for it to be a little more "sportier" instead of sounding too "stock like" and lastly, its look. I'm not one to say polished up is the only way to go, but come on guys, a little buffing wheel action to clean those pipes up wouldnt hurt. After all we are dishing out over 7 beans for it.

Well, you could always get the Borla polished yourself. The polished ones pretty much pass the cost of polishing on to you, which is probably part of why the Borla is the least expensive of the true dual exhausts for this car.
As for sound, that's subjective. I certainly wouldn't shell out $700+ for an exhaust without hearing what it sounds like first.

Re: Borla - Waste of $$$
Just curious here... What is the point for a fully polished mirror finish on exhaust pipes for a car that's actually driven on the road? I can understand having that for a trailer queen show car, but on a car that's driven on the road?
Re: Borla - Waste of $$$
Hey Rambo,
Did you get yours from the group buy? And if you do install it let us know your thoughts on it I need a second opinion. Mine should be comming soon but I too don't know If I'm gonna get it installed.

I agree with JDMan above. One of the reasons the exhaust is fairly reasonably priced is because it's not super polished--to look pretty on a trailer queen car. If you'd like it polished, then it's a do-it-yourself job, or buy a different kind of exhaust. In the congruent motif of the G35, the Borla is great bang-for-the-buck performance (this has been my experience with Borla so far). And I believe that they still have the million mile warranty. Not bad.

To polish it, take a buffer wheel to it with some buffing compound. It's pretty easy, though a little bit awkward with the exhaust. I've polished quite a few metal objects in the past several years, and the results have always been excellent. Not a whole lot of skill is involved--just the tools, etc. The guys at Home Depot or a good hardware store can find the buffing wheel and compound.

Polishing the exhaust really does not require any tools. All you need is some sandpaper and water and a hell of a lot of elbow grease. Just start with 220 and drysand all of the protective coating off. Granted, THIS IS GOING TO SCRATCH THE [censored] OUT OF YOUR EXHAUST!!!! This is where the art of polishing comes in. Just gradually go up in grit with wetsanding. I polished my frame, wheels and swingarm on my R1 and it came out as mirrored as chrome. I went with 220 dry, then 220 wet, 400 wet, 800 wet, 1000 wet, 1200 wet and lastly 1500 wet. The further you go up in grit will determine the final shine. Just know that most polishing compounds, such as mothers, generally have about a 1500 grit to them. I am actually considering having my exhaust, when I make the decision what I want, powdercoated in black. There will be a high gloss black finish on it. It will protect it from the weather and give it a unique look. Just my $.02. If you are serious about polishing, I can send you pics of how my bike turned out and I used just that method.

Re: Borla - Waste of $$$
Get it done man I need some feedback on what the exhaust sounds and feels like. Although I feel like I may never see mine anyway. I probably would have spent the money that I saved on the group buy for express shipping at this point!
And as far as polishing goes I like the idea just not teh elbow grease. I would probably have it polished somewhere if I wanted it done. I dont have time for all that. We shall see!
