I'm an older guy but I'm also a bit of an audiophile. I'm into accurate sound reproduction as perfomed in the recording studio rather than added "thump" so other cars can here it. I'm not interested in trunk enclosures or any of that (need trunk for occasional groceries and such). For those of you who are into that sort of thing, I not flaming you or anything. I used to have them myself back in the day, no offense intended. Actually I still like a good bit of base, just as long as it's at the same level intended for that particular song, no matter what genere.

I find the current Bose system in my G lacking quite a bit in sound quality. Sure it sounds great compared to a standard factory system found in most cars, I'll give it that. Has anyone done a custom sound job done on their G where the new speakers fit into their factory speaker enclosures? If so, what kind of speakers/player/amp did you use? Thanks!

hehehehehe...couldnt help it...anyways, to reproduce the studio sounds, you will have to heavily damping the interior to block as much road, tire, wind and engine noise as possible, as far for the speakers i will try the compresion horn tweeters and replace mid-range in the doors, cant tell you which brands its gonna up to your ears but ADS, focals, diamond audio are few high end speakers that i think it reproduce sounds the way recording artist intended to(mho)...i have ADS's 641is three ways, tweeters in the A-pillar pod, 6 1/2 (stock location)and 4 inchs in the door, and 346IM 6 1/2 inch coaxial at rear deck and of course the subs and amps in the trunk(wink)...btw---- stock radio will be out soon...s.w

Here is my current system setup...

Front Speakers: Soundsteam Exact 6.3 Front Component
Rear Speakers: Soundstream SST 6.5

Sub: Kicker S8L7 Solo Baric Box

Amp for Front: Soundsteam RUB600-4
Amp for Sub: Kicker KX800.2

i have two set of focal utopia component, 6.5 and 5.25 inch. The 6.5 fit in the front factory mid and tweeter. While the 5.25 fit where the 6x 9 bose sub. I have JL 10w6v2 in the fiber glass enclosure. I have two amps running, phoenix gold titanium series 500.4 and 800.1. That is the 4 channel amp supplying the two set of focal utopias. The 800.1 provide power to the sub. My system doesn't thump, just reproduce a very tight bass.

BTW, i pick focal utopia because i used to own the JM Labs Electra 915 for home. Love it because of sandwich cone technology, and off course the famous inverted titanium tweeter.

im planning on upgrading my sound system now too, i have on order diamond audio sub, TDX 10" along with a subzone specialty box for diamond audio. im also looking at the HEX components speakers, not to sure on what size the from doors speakers are and the back panel, not the rear deck. has anyone changed the back panel speakers??? also, did anyone remove the bose amp??

Rob, I'm like you. I don't want to be heard thumping a block away. I just want good clean sound. I don't think the Bose sounds horrible, but its not as good as it could/should be. I just upgraded my Bose system with MB Quart QSD 216 compnents in the front (they list for $1400 for the pair, but you can get them on ebay for $600), 6x9 and ended up buying some Boston Acoustics for the rear side panels.

I'd love to tell you how great it sounds, but after the shop got the speakers in they realized that they needed a different line level adapter that they had to order. Its hopefully supposed to be in tomorrow so I can go and finally hear the wonder of it all. I've been driving around for 5 days with out a radio. Its horrible, but hopefully will be worth it in the end.

Speaking of upgrades has ne one replaced their mid-high speakers and then put an amp to them? I only ask this because since we have 6 speakers on the inside plus tweets that would mean you would have to have a 6-channel amp. Any one know of a good 6-channel amp?

 

I have a 4 channel amp. I was only intending on upgrading the front components and the read 6x9's when the shop pointed out that the rear side panels would just be sitting there disconnected. I mentioned that I'd have to buy another amp if I added 2 more speakers, but he said that they could just run the 2 sets of reas speakers at 2 ohms off the amp and it wouldn't be a problem. And leave the front at 4ohms.

you dont need a 6 channel amp, just run two channels to front "mid" in the doors and put a passive corssover(bass blocker) between mids and highs.
