Just leased a coupe now looks like i'm getting deployed

Has this happened to anyone with any car?

I just leased the coupe in sept 05. Now I may be getting mobilized next month. I being told that I can get out of the lease but sure as hell don't want to give up my car. To bad my income gets cut by 50%.

just a self pity post really. No need to reply.

I'd talk to the leasing company. Maybe they'd suspend payments (and interest???) for your situation. It's worth a shot!

Good luck man. The kid accross the street just got back. He was married, bought a house and then deployed a month later. His wife had a hard time, we helped out as much as possible. Definitely tough...

Sorry for your bad luck bro. I'd suggest getting out of it and when you return, release one.

Get in touch with your leasing company. There's gotta be something that can be done being that you're enlisted.

Well straight from the servicemember civil relief act from congress. I can get out of all home lease and motor vehicle lease. There is no clause about being deployed in my lease.

This is an excerpt from the SCRA. So if anyone else is getting deployed make sure you know your rights!!!

************************************************** ********
Termination of Leases

Another significant change provided in the SCRA, is found in Section 305. The prior law only allowed the termination of pre-service "dwelling, professional, business, agricultural, or similar" leases. The new provision in the SCRA allows termination of leases by active duty servicemembers who subsequently receive orders for a permanent change of station (PCS) or a deployment for a period of 90 days or more. The SCRA also includes automobiles leased for personal or business use by servicemembers and their dependents. The pre-service automobile lease may be cancelled if the servicemember receives active duty orders for a period of one hundred and eighty (180) days or more. The automobile lease entered into while the servicemember is on active duty may be terminated if the servicemember receives PCS orders to a (1) location outside the continental United States or (2) deployment orders for a period of one hundred and eighty days or more. (See Section 305, SCRA)

Wow man... I'd be pretty pissed at the dealership if they knew about this clause and tried to play dumb about it and screw you over with lease payments. Definitely wouldn't buy/lease another vehicle from them.

Good luck with your military leave. Come back safe.

I hear that if you leave there is a way that you can cut you debt. or even put a hold on pmts. till you get back. You should look into it. I was told by a friend who went to IRAQ. Thats all i now.

Partyman, this clause is part of the relief act from congress. It's not part of the clause in the lease agreement. What that does is allows servicemembers to break leases if they are deployed fo rmore than 6 months.

There is a way to cut debt like having your house be 6% intrest only but I have a better deal with the bank already. All your debt goes to 6% interest. So there are some things to help out. It hurts bad though when you make X amount of dollars in the civ world then when you get activate you make X/2.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Our mission is still up in the air as of yet. Will find out more soon. :| Hurry up and wait is the army motto
