6MT problem - input appreciated

Ever since day 1, my car's shifter has been very notchy. Its been 2 months + since I got the car. I finally got done with my finals so I headed out the the dealership to test drive a 05 G with the exact specs. It blew me right off. I was like... is this how my car is supposed to be like ?! My car felt soo much different from the one i test drove one.

1) The shifter on the demo coupe was soooo much smoother. My car has 1053 miles and the demo coupe had 2300+ miles. The shifts were almost effortless and the shift on my G felt like super notchy and unsmooth. The engagement was much cleaner and not jerky(and does the "clunk" much easier/more often if i didn't pull off a perfect revmatch) like my car. I've never shifted so well in my car, explains why i couldn't drive smoothly after so much practice.

2) The clutch was so much different. My clutch felt "loose" It's like the pedal isn't properly attached or something. and when depressing the clutch the demo coupe's one felt much better the spring or whatever holds the clutch up felt tight and great. Mine on the other hand felt like a lousy spring and i could hear it creak when i depress the clutch. Also the clutch on my car would sometimes make a soft "pop" sound(like when u make an dent pop out on a soda can but lower pitched) when i put my foot on it.

3) I hear this very soft high pitch sound(I don't know how to describe it but it sounds like airplane's turbine but not as loud ?) in the demo coupe's engine. Theres no such sound in my car. Are the G's supposed to have that sound.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm starting to feel like crap for buying this car.

How far down from the floor is the engagement point for your clutch pedal? Perhaps if its adjusted too far down (most people I think is the last 3/4 of the travel of the pedal,or at least above 1/2 way) then you're not getting full disengagement of the clutch, making it hard for you to put it into another gear? Its a guess tho. But you do have me thinking I should go test drive some more G35s this weekend to see how they compare to my G.

It's pretty high up. I never tweaked it so it should be stock height.

sorry and i dont mean to jack your thread or anything,

dartmouth01, i've been driving stick for about 3 to 2 1/2 yrs and I was wondering what happens when you engage the clutch in but not all the way in so its harder to shift, will that cause problems? I grinded once and I was wondering wth does it do? I know it grinds the gear but more in depth plz. Thanks a bunch!

my o5 was very notchy and sometimes hard to get into gear when new. As I put more miles on the car the shifter started to feel much better. I now have 11,000 miles on the car and the shifter is near perfect. The only time it is at all stiff is for the first few miles in very cold weather going into first gear.
Every once in a while it will have a little clunck going into 2nd but other than those times the shifter feels great but maybe just a little too easy. I may put in a shorter throw shifter to increase the feel a little better

Drift, I'm not an expert in clutch mechanisms, but from a mechanical standpoint, I believe you are either wearing the clutch down a little more than usual, or grinding the dog teeth on the gears. If you don't press the clutch in far enough but still can shift without grinding, then that means the clutch plates are still in contact, but just barely, so that they can still change speeds relative to each other (essentially the drivetrain is connected to one side of the clutch, and the engine is attached to the other). So that change of speed between each other will cause wear (friction). How much I'm not sure though. If you get grinding, then you are shifting as if you're not using the clutch at all (when the revs match up you can shift without the clutch, however if you get it wrong, you grind the gears....)
