I was coming back from a trip yesterday on the highway and a small rock hit and cracked my windshield.

Anyone had this happen before? and what should I do and what can I do?

it is not that big so should I just leave it as it is or is there a way to seal it?
or should I just replace the whole windshield?

You shouldn't have to replace the windshield, but you should have it fixed so it doesn't spread. just google "windshield repair". there are exactly one zillion companies who do this kind of service. Might be a quick check in the yellow pages, I'm sure there is someone who performs this service in your area.

Ditto to what kajoob said. Get it fixed right away and it will only cost you a few bucks. If you wait it will start to travel and you'll have to buy a new windshield.

I notice that the windshield on the G seems to be pitted easily. I have rock chip all over mine from highway driving. Does anyone notice it?

DUDE SAME THINGS JUST HAPPENED TO ME LAST NIGHT. damn rock chip, im going to get it repaired asap, or find one of those ghetto repair kits.

how do they actually "repair" a broken glass?
do they just try to seal it?

Ya, they will tavel on you. A chip is one thing a crack is another, you may want to check with your isurance co. Sometimes they are repaced for free,some times it may cost around $150.00

For me it was worth the money to have a defect free windshield on an eight year old vehicle. They come to you to do the replacment in most cases.

The repair kit is only good if the chip is small. You can't use the repair kit if the windshield is cracked.

The kit comes in a tube of liquid "glass". You fill the small hole with the stuff and apply a film over it till the liquid dries and hardens.

Have it looked at ASAP and they may be able to stop the crack.

I got a tiny chip in the bottom center of mine back in october. So small you couldnt see it except from outside the car. About a week later I was staying at my girlfriends so I had to park it outside instead of the garage. It was pretty cold the night before and when I got in I noticed a crack across the entire bottom portion of the window. This time of year it is especially important to get it taken care of promptly. The cold will destroy it.

I had that happen to my Explorer a few months ago. Decided to replace the windshield. Cost $200 but I don't have to worry about it at all now. Sorry to hear of your troubles.

I had a crack in the window of my Accord a few years ago and I drove it home and that thing spread like wildfire. I had it replaced through insurance and didn't pay a dime. Anyhow, good luck with your repair.

First of all, it really depends on where the crack's located. I don't mean that it's a safety issue but rather will seeing it everyday make you go crazy? ie - I got a crack right behind the rear view mirror. Since the only person who'd notice the crack would be the passenager, I decided rather then spending $225 to replace the window, I had it sealed for +/- $20. It's almost flawless. You could notice it when you're about 2 feet away but from 5', you won't see a thing.

http://www.safelite.com did it for me. I think they're nationwide but even if they don't have a shop locally, they have an on-the-scene technician who'll come out. If you're not happy with the seal, they'll credit the amount towards a window replacement.

+1 check w/ your insurance. Mine replaces for free.

They will only repair a crack if it is less than 6" long. I have replaced 2 windshields on my sedan. It was around $300 for the new glass. My insurance didn't cover it, but check with yours before you do anything.
