I work in the service dept. for a Nissan dealership. I see plenty of older and newer Nissan's. I can tell you that Nissan/Infiniti does not have a problem with rust on their cars in general. It is very rare that we find rust on the body of a car even 10 years old, now exhaust and other bare metal parts are a different story. If you have found rust on your 1 year old Infiniti then there may have been a problem with YOURS not ALL Infiniti's. There is a reason you have a warranty.

WOW, talk about a knee jerk, reactionary post.
While you're quick to site issues with rattles & such;
Does it not seem odd that posts on rust issues are practically non existent here?
I would think you'd check into things, before making such a broad damning statement...
then the maner in which it was made.... unbelievable.

I think some of you need to put yourself in the other shoes

when my car needed a new ecu after about 4months i was ****ing livid and cursed and swore and calld it every name in the book.

If i found rust on my car, i'd also be cursing and swearing up a storm. It's easy enough to sit there and say 'settle down, don't be so offensive, blah blah blah', when you arn't pissed beyond belief.

I can't speak on behalf of other people who have responded, but my problem isn't with Elau complaing about rust, it's his racial slur and the conclusion that because his car has rust, he'll never buy another "***" car again. It's just plain ludicrous. I'm quite sure if Elau had a problem with a BMW he wouldn't be on some board talking about Kraut's and never buying a German car again.

Do you clean the area inside the groves of your trunk? Because any car will rust if it sits long enough with dirt/water/etc in that area. I always wipe mine off, and its always outside. No rust at all.
PS, German cars are a bit worse in the rust department.

I purchased the car brand spanking new in 2/05 for my own B-day present, so in essence the damn thing has only been on the road less than a year. It has 8k on the clock.

The car is always garage kept, and always hand dry when I washed it. How the fock can it rust out this soon?

For those who are too young to remember, Japanese cars were always considered rust bucket in the early years. Guess they still are. My '87 MB E-Class has no rust whatsoever. And the G is already rusting. Time to junk the damn thing and go back to German. This really pisses me off. I swear I will never have another Japanese job. And they are considering selling a GT-R for $70K? Nissan must be out of their focking mind.

Wait till the dealer sees the car next week, I am going to hang someone by their nuts.

Thanks for letting me rant.

Geez, I can't believe how sensitive you guys are, the guy was simply relieving some stress and frustration, I could care less that he used the term "***", or that he wants to go back to a German car. That's his opinion, and he has his right to it. In all honesty if he was racist and had anything against anyone Japanese, I don't think he would be buying a Japanese car. Seriously guys when you read something that does offend you, just take a deep breath and let it go, this forum is somewhere to vent about problems with our G's to keep other drivers informed of problems, solutions, exotic ways to fix up our cars, etc. Some people type their message with slang, some with etiquette, and others don't really pay attention....but either way I don't think anyone here is against anyone else. With that being said, try to realize that words are just words, and are always up to interpretation by all of those around you, leave it alone, you'll live longer and happier

Me too

I had:

1968 FIAT 850 Spider, rusted to pieces

1976 FIAT X 1/9, rusted to pieces

1983 Honda Accord, rusted to pieces

So, no Nippon or Italiano Iron for me! NOT!

I love each of them to death (literaly) and would love to have them all back rust and all!

I don't think any of those cars was "dipped" as they do now. The last several cars have had NO problems with rust.

hmm ... how can I say this gently ... I have to agree w/ Spadak; people are being way too sensitive here and are a little too concerned w/ political correctness. Interesting enough, the same people that are complaining about derogatory asain terms are also using terms that hispanic americans would be offended with.

So my verdict? Leave it up to the moderators to determine if the post is appropriate or not. It's impossible to please everyone 100% of the time.

2003 6mt Coupe, 3rd Chicago winter with more salt on the roads than in the Atlantic. No rust. I think you got a bad rust proofing job. This is the first time I've heard about this problem, so what G reputation are you referring to? You're covered up to 7 years I think. Good Luck.

First, the racial bit is over the top.

Second, rust - and I mean serious rust that causes structural damage to your car, doesn't happen overnight. To get serious rust, an area has to be neglected and ignored for a significant amount of time. Surface corrosion (and I don't mean the kind that just be polished away) takes time to materialize.

Even cars that are driven through the salt belt take time to develop visible, damaging rust.

If your G is rusting badly (still see no pictures to show us what you're talking about) it's more likely your own fault than Infiniti's. Same goes for surface corrosion. If you keep up with your car and give it a good visual inspection at least once a week you'll catch problems before they occur or progress beyond your control.

As a reference, I wax/polish all the painted areas of my car just as I wax/polish the exterior sheetmetal. Inside the trunk lid, door edges & jambs, etc. It makes a difference.

Oh come on now.
I am 1/2 Harp, 1/2 Polock.
Gee, I don't get offended by being called either!
I guess everyone here must say "Happy Holidays" not "MERRY CHRISTMAS"
This "political correctness" bullsh.., is out of control.
My Acura, Nissan, and Infiniti are all *** cars.
It means NOTHING more than point of manufacture.
Personally *** cars are the best built, most reliable cars on the road.
So HOW was that a slur?
My Wife is a "Blond". She is not offended by "Blond" jokes.

All of this crap, along with people wanting to take God out of the Constitution, and off money, is gone way too far!

This Country needs to stop letting the ambulance chasers, dictate how we live our lives!

Yes this is a rant, and it is my opinion.
You need not agree. Remember we live in America. We have freedom of speach.
If you don't like what someone has to say, don't listen.
But don't make it against the law.

Thanks!!!!

And the guy who started all these finger pointing racial crap is none but a Chinese himself - with a last name WONG. Go figure. Guess he has to act "white" and "political correctness". I merely rant about the rust on my car which has only 8K miles on the clock and the guy took the thread to stratosphere with opinion which has nothing to do with cars.

I have been waiting for someone who share the same sentiment with me......guess I am not the only one.

Thanks again for understanding. I am totally with you on this one.

The rust only limits on the edge of the trunk lid facing the rear window. A spot which usually not affected by weather or rock chip. Guess the best thing for me to do is to show the dealer and have them take care of it. If it means to replace the entire trunk lid.
